The Indiana Hoosiers go back on the road this Saturday to face the Louisville Cardinals at 2PM at the KFC Yum! Center.  The game will be televised on ESPN.  In recent years Louisville has had the reputation as a ball hawking defense that causes trouble for opposing offenses.  Prior to this year Indiana’s offense has struggled mightily with turnovers.  Accordingly a matchup with the Cardinals has been a dangerous proposition for IU.  The last two matchups between the two traditional powers has borne that out.  The teams played in 2014 and 2016.  Louisville won both matchups by double digits and…

It goes without saying that 5-star in-state guard Romeo Langford is Indiana’s top remaining recruiting target for its 2018 class.  The New Albany High School senior has trimmed his list down to 3 schools — Indiana, Kansas and Vanderbilt.  For what it’s worth, prognosticators have Indiana and Vanderbilt as a coin toss, with Kansas bringing up the rear.  We’d warn however that these predictions are more like uneducated guesses than anything scientific, with the percentages drifting with the wind of any unsubstantiated rumor.  This is especially true with Langford, who has provided no clear indication as to which way he…

It looked like the turning point of Monday’s 77-64 Indiana win over Iowa was going to be late in the first half.  Throughout most of the first half the teams stayed within a couple points of each other.  At 6:25 the game was tied at 20.  Led by 7 points and 2 assists from Devonte Green, Indiana would run out to a 41-26 halftime lead.  The first half run was capped off by a great hustle play by Al Durham, Jr. at the buzzer: https://youtu.be/DPFwxGnQ2aQ But this Indiana team hasn’t been known for putting together complete games as it continues…

It was a game Indiana had to win.  With losses stacked after Duke and Michigan, and with Louisville and Notre Dame looming, either Indiana would win this game or they could face sitting at 4-7.  If nothing else, this was a game of runs.  Fortunately for IU, they had two big runs and the Hawkeyes only had one as Indiana secured a 77-64 win and moved to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in the B1G. Overall:  B+  Early on this game was starting to feel like a missed opportunity, with Iowa committing a lot of turnovers but Indiana failing to gain…

Indiana sophomore guard Curtis Jones has announced his intent to transfer at the end of the semester.  Jones, who is from Richmond, Virginia, was averaging 3.0 points per game on the season.  He is likely best known by Indiana fans for his 15 point outburst in the first game of his career in the 2016-17 season which included several clutch shots against Kansas.  He has never able to achieve that level production since.  Jones had played only 3 minutes in the Hoosiers’ last 2 games. Indiana is on a short turnaround after an uninspiring 69-55 loss at Michigan on Saturday, as the unusual B1G in December schedule continues.  The Hoosiers return home to Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall to host the Iowa Hawkeyes for an 8:00 PM Monday night tipoff on BTN.  The Hawkeyes (4-4, 0-1) lost their B1G opener at home against Penn State and have lost 4 out of their last 5 overall.  The latest line has Indiana as a 4.5 point favorite. THE SERIES The Hoosiers own a commanding 101-76 lead in the series which dates back to 1909.  Last year Iowa won…

When was the turning point in Indiana’s 69-55 loss to Michigan?  The opening tip?  When the Hoosiers arrived in Ann Arbor?  When they boarded their plane?  Do you have to go all the way back to their game against Duke?  Perhaps they were a little too content with their ability to hang with the No. 1 Blue Devils? Indiana started the game on their heels, and it wasn’t long until they were on their backs.  An early round knock-out. In all seriousness, it was clear at the outset that the Hoosiers didn’t have it on Saturday.  Their energy was bad. …

One might have hoped that an inspired effort against Duke would have been a foundation to build on for Indiana to open the Big Ten.  Unfortunately the Hoosiers were far from inspiring to start the game, and they were never able to overcome it. Overall:  C   Indiana’s problems from the first two games — turnovers and 3-point defense — got the Hoosiers behind early.  Indiana had a deer in the headlights look at the start that was reminiscent of Indiana State.  Let there be no doubt — this game was the Hoosiers first step back in the wrong direction. …
