Okay, we admit it.  We’ve been fawning over Zach McRoberts.  From his return to the game to admiring his unrelenting effort despite not receiving a well deserved scholarship, it would be fair to call it a basketball crush. If you are just a casual…

We could write just another game story.  Surely a dozen of them will be written.  You might even read one of them. But here’s the real story. You can excuse Tom Allen and this Indiana football program for not being physically and athletically ready yet for the titans of the Big Ten.  Minnesota is not a titan of the Big Ten, and for what happened on Friday night — there are no excuses. Having a young defense is no excuse.  Minnesota’s offense is younger, and without their starting quarterback and running back. Having an offense that doesn’t make big plays…

The phrase “must win” is one of the most overused terms in sports.  There is no way to know for sure until you look back on a season whether a game was truly must win.  We’ll just say this about Friday night’s contest at Minnesota — it sure feels like a must win. Whoever wins this game is going get a boost of confidence, and renewed hope for the postseason.  The loser is going to continue to watch their season spiral down the drain as one of their more winnable games becomes another missed opportunity. If the Hoosiers win on…

Fortunately for Indiana basketball, forward Race Thompson didn’t follow in the family footsteps.  As you may know, his father is a legend at the University of Minnesota. Darrell Thompson played running back for the Golden Gophers and is still the Minnesota career record holder in rushing yards (4,654) and all-purpose yards (5,109). He went on to play for the Green Bay Packers for five seasons. Darrell picked up 98 of those 4,654 yards on this memorable play. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePSDQYUduZM Interestingly, Darrell was at Minnesota during the same time (1986-89) that IU’s all-time leading rusher Anthony Thompson was at Indiana.  He rushed…

When graduate transfer Evan Fitzner committed to Indiana back in May, it felt to many like an afterthought.  It has, after all, been an interesting college career for the San Diego native. Fitzner played his most minutes during his redshirt freshman year (2015-16),…

Indiana University head football coach Tom Allen joined the legendary voice of IU Athletics Don Fischer to take a look back at Penn State and preview Friday’s contest against Minnesota. Indiana stands at 4-4 on the season and is currently riding a three game losing streak. Discussed on the show were the GoFundMe initiatives for Matt Stauder and Reakwon Jones.  Here are links to those: Matt Stauder Reakwon Jones Stauder joined the program towards the end. Each and every year when Indiana and Michigan meet, we are repeatedly reminded of the infamous Hoosier losing streak to the Wolverines.  You will surely hear about it in a few weeks when the Hoosiers travel to Ann Arbor.  The streak now stands at 31 years, dating back to 1987. The players on the current IU team weren’t born yet.  Not even close.  The player’s parents might not have started high school yet.  It has been a while. But it all came together on one magical fall day in Bloomington.  Let’s take a quick look back at October 24, 1987,…

Reese Taylor is redefining what it means to be “Mr. Football.” As a senior in high school, he won that honor as a state championship winning quarterback at Ben Davis in Indianapolis. As a true freshman at Indiana, he hasn’t played a snap at quarterback — but that is just about the only position on the field that has eluded him to this point.  And now that too is just one step away from changing. In connection with breaking the news on Monday that quarterback Michael Penix was out for the season with an ACL injury, IU head coach Tom…
