It is Bucket Game week 2017, as the Purdue Boilermakers host the Indiana Hoosiers this Saturday in West Lafayette.  In the spirit of the rivalry, today we take a lighter look at the series in light of the Hoosiers’ recent success. One thing that seems abundantly clear in the early portion of Indiana’s 2017-18 season is that its going to need much greater contributions and leadership from its veterans if it has any hope of producing a respectable season.  Through the first 3 games, upperclassmen Robert Johnson and Juwan Morgan had shown flashes but neither had put together a complete game.  Both changed that on Sunday in Indiana’s 70-53 win over South Florida.  Johnson had one of his better games as a Hoosier, scoring 21 points on 9-14 shooting including 3-3 on 3-pointers.  He also added 4 rebounds, 3 assists and…

The first 28 minutes of Indiana’s Sunday night tussle with South Florida had a familiar feel to it.  Was it another one of those “grind it out” games that we’ve become accustomed to when playing Penn State and Pat Chambers?  That would make sense because South Florida has two former Penn State players on its roster (Payton Banks and Terrence Samuel).  Or did South Florida watch the Indiana State film and try to follow that script?  They certainly couldn’t get Indiana State’s separation from the Hoosiers, but they did play an aggressive style on both ends that seemed to resemble…

The Number 2 seeded Indiana University men’s soccer team defeated Old Dominion 3-0 on a frigid Sunday afternoon in Bloomington.  The undefeated Hoosiers (16-0-5) have advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament and will face New Hampshire next Saturday at Bill Armstrong Stadium in Bloomington. The IU football team has had some frustrating games this year.  Against Michigan and Michigan State the defense was good but the offense was stagnant.  Against Maryland the offense was good but the defense fell apart.  Against Ohio State and Wisconsin the Hoosiers competed for nearly 3 full quarters before falling apart.  Penn State was pretty ugly, but even that game, once Indiana survived the initial onslaught they hung in pretty well.  The final scores don’t always reflect it, but Indiana competed in all six of its losses this year.  The one common denominator was the inability to “put it…

The Indiana Hoosiers (4-6, overall, 1-6 B1G) host the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (4-6 overall, 3-4 B1G) for a noon kickoff at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington.  The game is Indiana’s Senior Day and will be televised on BTN.
