We wanted to write a story about all of the players on the IU basketball team that are dealing with injuries. It might be a quicker exercise to talk about the players that are not. That’s an exaggeration of course, but based on our count, five Hoosiers are dealing with various issues — and we haven’t even gotten to the season opener.  That’s on Tuesday, and the question now is how many of the following will see the floor against Chicago State as IU opens its 119th season: Sophomore guard Al Durham, Jr. has been seen walking around campus in…

It has been a long and winding journey for Indiana University basketball senior forward Juwan Morgan. From an injury riddled freshman year that included a Big Ten title and a Sweet 16 run, to a breakout junior year that led Morgan to 2nd team All-Big Ten, the Waynesville, Missouri native has seen it all. After two years with Tom Crean, Morgan is ready to begin his second year with head coach Archie Miller, and he will do it as a senior co-captain along with Zach McRoberts. Morgan met with the media on Monday afternoon to discuss a wide range of…

Indiana University men’s basketball coach Archie Miller gave a Monday afternoon press conference to provide an update on the team and preview this week’s season opening games against Chicago State and Montana State. Notable remarks from Miller included: Junior guard Devonte Green has returned to practice and should be ready to play against Chicago State. Freshman Race Thompson and sophomore Al Durham are not likely to be available this week. Freshman wing Jerome Hunter is not likely to play either. The number of injuries have been enough to negatively impact practice.  None of them sound like they are long term…

The Indiana University football program is back on its regular schedule after a much needed bye week.  The Hoosiers are reeling, losers of four in a row after a grueling 38-31 loss to Minnesota a week ago. The Maryland Terrapins come to Bloomington this weekend (Noon, Saturday) for what is undeniably a must win football game. Hoosier head coach Tom Allen met with the media on Monday to discuss Minnesota and Maryland.  He also gave the following injury updates: Jacob Robinson — still working his way back, has a chance to play. T.D. Roof — practicing again, really benefited from…

College basketball is back, and Hoosiers from Fort Wayne to Evansville, Gary to Richmond, and everywhere in between are preparing to get hysterical about the game they love. In 49 states, it’s just a game.  In the state of Indiana, we need our own power rankings.  Every week we’ll help settle the ongoing debate regarding who are the best of the ten Division One college basketball teams in the basketball crazed state of Indiana. Here are the preseason state of Indiana NCAA Division One men’s college basketball power rankings.  Let the debate begin. Current Indiana teams in Joe Lunardi’s Bracketology: …

Raise the banner — and then raise the standard. IU women’s basketball head coach Teri Moren knows the number down to the last person.  On multiple occasions, the 5th year head coach has precisely referred to the WNIT championship record breaking home crowd of 13,007. She also knows that in order to keep the fans coming back, the level of play is going to have to take the next step. “I will say this, I’ve made it crystal clear, as much as I loved the WNIT experience for our program and the community of Bloomington, that’s ultimately not our goal. …

We are now past Halloween and it is not a trick — IU has just one commitment in its 2019 recruiting class.  Indianapolis based guard Armaan Franklin gave his verbal pledge to the Hoosiers back in September. Indiana will have at least two scholarships open on its roster next year as Evan Fitzner and Juwan Morgan move on.  With Romeo Langford’s likely move to the NBA, three openings should be expected, and some believe that IU is pursuing a four player class. With dwindling options and new commitments announced almost daily around the country at this point, it is reasonable to wonder…

After yet another soul crushing loss that seemed to follow a decades old script, we are back down to just us. Every Indiana football season begins with a healthy dose of optimism.  Visions of 1945 and 1967 abound, and folks that have no idea what those years mean genuinely and enthusiastically want to believe.  God love ’em. But those days are gone.  Basketball season has commenced, and the fair-weathers have moved on, save for some incoherent mumbling about how Fred Glass hates football and Tom Allen hasn’t been a head coach beyond Pop Warner. Now it’s just us — the…

You are in good company if Romeo Langford was the first player that you were looking for in Thursday night’s IU basketball exhibition against Southern Indiana.  The New Albany, Indiana native was of course the headliner of a top ten 2018 Hoosier recruiting class. After the game, it was two of Langford’s 2018 classmates and fellow Hoosier natives that were generating the buzz. For everyone involved, exhibitions are about practice.  Even the IU legends are getting to know the new names and faces.  IU public address announcer Chuck Crabb needed a little practice getting Damezi Anderson’s name right. If you…
