Yes, it was ugly.  Yes, Penn State gave it away at the free throw line.  No, it doesn’t matter.  Indiana got its first road win of the year.  You take conference road wins any way you can get them. Indiana moves to 7-2 overall on the season and gets off to an important 2-0 start in Big Ten play.  With a home game against Illinois waiting when conference play resumes later this month, IU has a strong chance at a 3-0 start. Each team looked as though they might run away with the game.  Penn State got off to a…

Big Ten play continues on Tuesday night for Indiana as they hit the road, traveling to Penn State.  One thing seems certain when these two teams meet — it’s going to be close. The last seven meetings between Penn State and Indiana have been decided by an average of 3.85 points with the largest margin of eight occurring in a triple overtime contest in Bloomington in 2017. We looked back at some of the more memorable close contests going into last year’s game at IU.  The series has produced buzzer beaters that counted, buzzer beaters that didn’t, and of course…

Hoosier fans are going to have to wait until warm-ups at Penn State tomorrow night to learn the status of All-Big Ten forward Juwan Morgan. The senior co-captain injured his lower leg in the second half of Saturday’s game against Northwestern.  Morgan played through the injury for a couple trips down the floor before requiring assistance during the under four minute media timeout. Video of the incident did not provide clarity on the nature of the injury.  Morgan was evaluated throughout the remainder of the game, and team trainers could be clearly seen applying ice to his shin. Indiana University…

When Romeo-mania had reached a fever pitch last winter, for some, enough was enough. “Just pick a school already.” “He’s just dragging it out for attention.” Those were common refrains from a certain element of the IU fan base that had grown tired of the hype — and the waiting. If you haven’t read it, ESPN’s Jeff Borzello wrote a great article recently that summarizes what that long recruitment was really all about.  No, it wasn’t about Adidas and arm sleeves as some wanted you to believe. From the IU perspective, here’s the bottom line.  When it comes to recruiting…

You know that knot you had in your stomach in the final minutes of Saturday’s game against Northwestern?  Get used to it.  That seems to be the template for Big Ten basketball in 2018-19.  Yes, Michigan seems to be on another level.  Rutgers and Illinois look like the clear bottom feeders.  Everyone else?  Flip a coin. Indiana did enough to win a game it had to win for multiple reasons, including avoiding a losing streak and protecting its home floor in the Big Ten. Did the win come at a cost?  Hoosier Nation will have to wait with bated breath…
