First team All-Big Ten safety Jamar Johnson has decided to pursue his NFL career after a breakout junior season. The Sarasota, Fla. product announced his plans in a post on his Twitter page on Monday afternoon. The Cleveland Cavaliers’ injuries have become former IU star Yogi Ferrell’s latest opportunity. The Cavaliers have signed Ferrell to a 10-day contract, the team announced on Monday. Cleveland was granted a hardship exception by the NBA in order to acquire Ferrell. The hardship exception is a temporary roster spot granted by the league. It allows a team to exceed the 15-man maximum roster when it has at least four players who are sick or injured for longer than two weeks. Indiana basketball forward Jerome Hunter met with the media on Saturday afternoon. A redshirt sophomore, Hunter discussed a number of topics including his mid-season development. Through 12 games the Pickerington, Ohio product is averaging 4.8 points and 3 rebounds in 17 minutes of action per contest.  He is shooting 39.7 percent overall, and 36.7 percent from 3-point range.  Hunter matched career highs in both points (12) and rebounds (7) on Thursday at Wisconsin. Indiana will welcome a very recent foe to Bloomington for the 2021 season. The Hoosiers picked up a commitment from Mississippi graduate transfer defensive end Ryder Anderson on Friday night. Anderson announced his decision on his Twitter page. “I’m very excited and blessed to announce that I am committed to play my final year of eligibility at Indiana!” Anderson said in the Twitter post. The 6-foot-6 and 275 pound Anderson had 43 tackles in 2020 including 2.5 sacks. Anderson might have to apologize when he arrives at Indiana. The IU football program got a pleasant bit of Friday evening news as first team All-Big Ten and third-team All American receiver Ty Fryfogle announced his return for the 2021 season. Fryfogle broke the news on his Twitter page. “It’s not a threat, it’s a promise…I’m coming back on my worst behavior…” he wrote in his introduction. “I have been presented with the opportunity to declare for the NFL Draft, however after long talks with my mom, family, friends and coaches I have decided to return for my last year of eligibility at Indiana University,” Fryfogle wrote in a graphic…

For months there has been talk of the coming “Wild West” college basketball offseason. The early markers of what is in store seem to be emerging. In a move that is widely expected to pass, the NCAA will vote on granting a one-time transfer waiver for all student-athletes later this month.  That means the traditional requirement for an undergraduate to sit out a year is no longer relevant.  And that could mean that a wave of names hit the transfer portal.
