As college basketball’s last unbeaten team, you might wonder why it took so long. Indiana’s 32-0 1975-76 squad has been selected to the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame the organization announced on Saturday. The news follows the induction of legendary forward Calbert Cheaney in 2019. Every win counts, but some are harder than others to feel good about. Indiana overcame a slow start to grind out a 27-11 win over Maryland, but it came with a cost. Starting quarterback Michael Penix, Jr. left the game in the third quarter with an apparent lower leg injury. Penix limped off the field after a 21 yard run to the Maryland three yard line, and with Indiana hanging on to a delicate 9-3 lead. The one word within the program this week was to “respond” to the loss to Ohio State last Saturday. While that response was uninspiring,…
A messy 2020 Big Ten football season could get messier. And more interesting for Indiana (4-1). The cancellation of Saturday’s Ohio State vs. Illinois game due to COVID-19 puts the Buckeyes on the brink of elimination from the Big Ten Championship game. Big Ten rules published along with the modified eight game schedule require that a team play at least six games to qualify for the Dec. 19 Big Ten championship game. Because Ohio State has now had two games canceled this season, the Buckeyes would be ineligible to play in the Big Ten Championship Game if either of their…
Coming off their first loss of the 2020 season, Indiana still has big possibilities ahead of it. IU has surprised the college football world this year, winning games the oddsmakers said they weren’t supposed to. This time, the Hoosiers are a big favorite against a divisional foe. Can Indiana get back on track and keep its magical season going? MARYLAND (2-1) at No. 12 INDIANA (4-1) Kickoff: Noon ET Location: Memorial Stadium…

IU will have to face one of its top 2022 point guard targets in the Big Ten. Junior Bruce Thornton announced on Thanksgiving morning that he has verbally committed to Ohio State. The Hoosiers offered Thornton over the summer and were one of five finalists along with Purdue, Alabama and Georgia. With Rob Phinisee graduating in 2022 and Khristian Lander’s length of stay in college uncertain, point guard is a priority position in the 2022 class. Indiana is involved with a number of 2022 point guard targets. They have offered out-of-state prospects Avery Brown, Zion Cruz, Justice Williams and Jalen…
As delicate as things may be, we have basketball once again. We can all be grateful for that on Thanksgiving. Can we be thankful for what we saw from our first look at the 2020-21 edition of IU basketball? We’ll do our best to examine the results, but the real test comes next week. Indiana (1-0) will travel to Asheville, N.C. for the Maui Invitational. The Hoosiers will play three games in three days, beginning with Providence at 2:30 p.m. ET on Monday.
