The NBA Summer League concluded on Tuesday in Las Vegas.  Just three former IU players were involved this year.   Here is a quick recap of how they performed. ROMEO LANGFORD Preparing to enter his third season in Boston, the franchise wanted Langford to get more experience after playing in just 50 games over his first two campaigns mostly due to injuries. Langford played in three games in Las Vegas, where he saw 25.7 minutes per contest and scored 11 points per game.  He shot 44 percent from the field overall including 38.5 percent from behind-the-arc on 4.3 attempts per game. …

The Daily Hoosier spent the week down in The Bahamas in connection with IU basketball’s foreign tour and had several opportunities to see the team in action.  Since nothing was televised and not everything was public, we are going to go player-by-player in jersey number order to share our thoughts on what we saw and what to expect from Indiana’s 2021-22 roster. Parker Stewart appears to have taken positively to Mike Woodson’s efforts to get him back to playing at a high level. Back on Aug. 6 Woodson was asked about Stewart and he said this about the 6-foot-5 redshirt senior (redshirt junior eligibility-wise) transfer shooting guard. “Early on he went through a stretch where he was probably the best player in the gym, and then he just took a back seat, and now I’m trying to retool him and get him back to how he was playing earlier when he first started but he’s doing fine,” Woodson said. He was always regarded as a leader on the basketball court, and former IU star Quinn Buckner is still making his way to the top. Buckner has been named the chair of the Indiana University Board of Trustees.  He has served on the board since his appointment in 2016. Watch as IU football starting quarterback Michael Penix, Jr. addresses the media on Monday. The Tampa, Fla. product provides an update on his health, discusses the offensive performance at a closed Saturday scrimmage, and much more. Penix spent the offseason rehabbing a torn ACL, his third season ending injury in as many seasons.  Over the course of his three-year Indiana career, Penix has completed 255 of his 414 throws (61.6 percent) for 3,258 yards, 25 touchdowns and eight interceptions. And then there were two. Just a week before he is set to announce his college decision, top-30 class of 2022 combo guard Jalen Hood-Schifino has made another list cut. According to a report by Joe Tipton of On3, Hood-Schifino has reduced his list from five to two schools and will now announce a decision between Tennessee and Indiana. The 6-foot-5 Hood-Schifino visited both schools in June.  He will announce his decision on August 24. Hood-Schifino is ranked No. 24 nationally in the 2022 class by the 247Sports Composite. Tom Allen had the look of a coach who may have found his number one running back on Monday. The fifth year Indiana head coach was asked at a media availability who stood out from the running back room at the program’s closed scrimmage inside Memorial Stadium on Saturday. No. 17 it is for IU football in the preseason polls. The first Associated Press poll of the 2021 season followed the coaches poll and ESPN power rankings, slotting Indiana in at No. 17 on Monday. Joining IU from the Big Ten are Ohio State (No. 4), Wisconsin (No. 12), Iowa (No. 18) and Penn State (No. 19).  Michigan and Northwestern also received votes. With The Bahamas trip now in the rear-view mirror, it is a good time to look forward to Mike Woodson’s first season at the helm of his alma mater.  That will be a bit easier today now that all 31 opponents on the 2021-22 IU basketball schedule are known. The final piece of the puzzle is now clear as IU will open things up on Nov. 9 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington against Eastern Michigan.
