Even an emerging program with by most accounts a great culture isn’t immune to the new era of roster turnover in college sports. Spring practice can bring clarity to the depth chart, and that may in part help explain a recent wave of IU football entries into the NCAA’s transfer portal over the last week. The latest to enter the portal is Miami, Fla. based wide receiver Gary Cooper. He follows a pair of defensive linemen, Jeramy Passmore and Damarjhe Lewis, who signaled their intent to find a new school earlier this week. Like Passmore and Lewis, Cooper is no…
Former Northwestern forward Miller Kopp announced on Tuesday that he was transferring to Indiana. Kopp joined WISH-TV’s Charlie Clifford after the announcement on the Who’s Got Next podcast. Kopp discusses a number of topics including why he and his three brothers are chasing down four-time Super Bowl Champion Rob Gronkowski, a legendary workout regimen from his time at Northwestern, and why he ultimately chose to link up with Coach Mike Woodson at Indiana. No one knew what direction Indiana would go with much of anything when it was announced on March 15 that the school decided to part ways with Archie Miller. But for a handful of top in-state class of 2022 talents, it quickly became clear that irrespective of what happened, they were viewed as a priority by the transition team of Mike Roberts, Kenya Hunter and various administrative staff. For Westfield, Ind. point guard Braden Smith, that meant periodic conversations turned into daily contact. And with IU seemingly distracted by a regime change, that meant a lot to the Indiana junior…

The in-state class of 2023 isn’t particularly deep when it comes to high major college basketball prospects, but there are a few intriguing talents at the top with others likely to separate themselves this spring and summer. One of the more recent to emerge is Cathedral High School (Indianapolis, Ind.) forward Xavier Booker. The 6-foot-11 Booker has made a name for himself this spring playing for the George Hill All Indy AAU program. Booker has already had a conversation with new Indiana head coach Mike Woodson, and he appears to be a class of 2023 player on a trajectory to…
Indiana head coach Mike Woodson made a quick return visit to New York on Wednesday night. He’ll leave with a better recruiting tool than he ever could concoct on his own — because it was a genuine moment. All high school players aspire to reach the NBA, and they want to believe their college coach can help them get there. That’s why seeing this video of Woodson reuniting with his former New York Knicks players should really resonate with recruiting targets. Woodson started the 2020-21 season as an assistant with the Knicks, and he was reunited with his former players…
Indiana has suffered a pair of losses in the defensive trenches, an area of the roster where the Hoosiers were already a bit shorthanded. Defensive tackle Damarjhe Lewis and end Jeramy Passmore both entered the NCAA’s transfer portal this week. Although they are eligible to return to IU from the portal, neither player is listed on the program’s roster on iuhoosiers.com. The 6-foot-3 and 301 pound Lewis was one of the higher ranked players in Indiana’s 2020 class. The 3-star recruit came in at No. 682 overall in the 247Sports Composite, and the No. 57 defensive tackle. The Griffin, Georgia…
Assistant coach Yasir Rosemond is locked in on bringing length to Bloomington during his early days on the IU staff. South Carolina forward Julian Phillips is the third class of 2022 forward in the last five days with ties to Rosemond who received a scholarship offer from Indiana. Phillips announced the IU offer on his Twitter page. https://twitter.com/ju1ianphillips/status/1384676637363560451?s=20 The 6-foot-8 Phillips hails from Blythewood, S.C., just outside of Columbia. According to the 247Sports Composite, Phillips is the No. 26 player overall in the class of 2022, and the No. 7 power forward. 247Sports’ national scouting director Jerry Meyer recently had…
Former Northwestern forward Miller Kopp was on our list published nearly two weeks ago of potential transfer portal fits for Indiana as the program shifted towards finding perimeter shooters to fill out its roster for the 2021-22 season. On Tuesday the 6-foot-7 junior announced that he was staying in the Big Ten conference and heading to Bloomington. Kopp averaged 11.3 points and 3 rebounds per game over 31.5 minutes per contest in 2020-21. He shot 39.6 from the field overall including 33 percent from 3-point range. The Big Ten Network released 25 of Kopp’s best plays during his three seasons…
