Indiana safety Jamar Johnson has been invited to the 2021 NFL Scouting Combine. The Sarasota, Fla. based Johnson was a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2020, the first IU safety to earn that honor since Eric Allen in 1996.  He had four interceptions and 43 tackles, including 3.5 for loss in 2020.  Johnson was named the Big Ten co-Defensive Player of the Week after a week one win against Penn State. Former IU star D.J. White joined A.J. Guyton on the House of Hoosier Podcast this week. Tuscaloosa, Alabama native White started in all 29 games he played in during his freshman season, averaging 13.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game during the 2004-05 season.  His productivity earned him Big Ten freshman of the year honors.  After an injury plagued sophomore season there was concern that White would transfer.  Mike Davis resigned in 2006 and White indicated that he was likely to look elsewhere. With a wealth of returning talent, Indiana is set up to have another big season in 2021. If Indiana is still in the NCAA Tournament hunt at the end of the month, it could face an unusually daunting and unexpected gauntlet before it can look forward to any postseason action. Indiana has struggled as a program to build on big wins and establish momentum under head coach Archie Miller. Indiana redshirt sophomore Jerome Hunter was with the team on the bench on Tuesday night against Illinois but not uniform. Prior to the game IU released a statement indicating that Hunter was not playing due to a “coach’s decision.” Head coach Archie Miller expanded on the situation after the Hoosiers’ 75-71 overtime loss to the Illini. “There is nothing to really talk about with Jerome. Indiana lost to Illinois on Tuesday night by a final score of 75-71 in overtime at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind. The Hoosiers were led by Trayce Jackson-Davis with 19 points and 14 rebounds.  Race Thompson added 18 points and eight rebounds.  IU led 41-34 at halftime but struggled offensively after the break. (UPDATE:  Archie Miller expanded on Hunter’s situation after the Illinois game) Indiana redshirt sophomore forward Jerome Hunter is not in uniform for pregame warm-ups for Tuesday night’s game against Illinois.  IU Athletics released the following on Hunter’s status: “Sophomore forward Jerome Hunter will not suit up tonight against Illinois (Coach’s Decision).” A source told The Daily Hoosier that Hunter practiced with the team earlier in the day on Tuesday.  The reserve forward has appeared in all 16 games and is averaging 5.3 points and 2.8 rebounds in 17.5 minutes per contest.
