Indiana basketball’s recruiting class of 2021 has risen to respectability in the national rankings thanks in large part to the rise of recent addition Tamar Bates. The Kansas City, Kan. product jumped from No. 60 to No. 26 in 247Sports’ final rankings for the incoming freshman class.  Bates remains a 4-star prospect according to the recruiting service.  His updated rating makes him the eleventh highest rated player to sign with Indiana during the recruiting service rankings era.  Previously, Bates had never been ranked inside the top-90 by 247Sports before a late surge over the last six months. Indiana’s recruiting targets in the class of 2023 are starting to take shape, and one of the more intriguing prospects hails from just south of the Hoosier state. Although coaches cannot initiate contact with class of 2023 prospects until June 15, Indiana’s staff has made it clear that they have strong interest in North Laurel, Ky. shooting guard Reed Sheppard. New IU football defensive coordinator Charlton Warren completed his first spring practice season with the program a few weeks ago. The 44 year old Georgia native was hired by Tom Allen in January after spending two seasons as a defensive backs coach with the University of Georgia. New Indiana coach Mike Woodson continues to round out his staff.  On Monday the program announced the addition of team and recruitment analyst Mike Stump, who hails from central Indiana and attended Cathedral High School.  Stump was most recently with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants organization. Stump worked as an assistant under Cathedral and Indy Heat head coach Jason Delaney and coached former Hoosier Armaan Franklin in 2018-19.
