Indiana’s program record run of being ranked in the top-25 for 11 straight weeks came to an end on Tuesday. After entering the weekend ranked No. 17 in both the AP and coaches polls, the Hoosiers dropped completely out of both following their 34-6 humbling in Iowa City. The Hoosiers are effectively No. 33 in the new AP poll based on votes, and No. 32 in the coaches poll. IU won’t have much of a chance to work their way back into the rankings this weekend against FCS opponent Idaho. But the remainder of the schedule presents several challenges that…

Versatile players are at the foundation of the various tactics Allen wants to tinker with each week. By now you have likely grown accustomed to some new position names in his defensive philosophy, hybrid positions that best illustrate the versatility. The hybrid safety/linebacker husky…

The Hoosiers dodged a bullet on that play as quarterback Michael Penix was able to recover the ball and throw it away. But it signaled things to come — and didn’t take long for not ideal to become total chaos. Coming off his third season ending injury in three years,…

Indiana head coach Tom Allen expressed concerns about the well-being of starting safety Devon Matthews on Saturday after he left the game with an injury that appeared to impact his mobility, at least momentarily. Matthews was injured on a tackle where his helmet made leading impact with a receiver, and he struggled to move briefly on the field before walking off after a minute or two. The Jacksonville, Fla. native stayed behind in Iowa City for further evaluation at a local hospital, and IU sent his mother to be with him. On Monday Allen indicated that the senior defensive back…
