Could Indiana have two Bloomington-based players on its 2023-24 roster? That possibility increased on Wednesday when the IU coaching staff visited Bloomington North High School junior forward J.Q. Roberts at his school’s open gym and extended a scholarship offer. Roberts reported the offer on his Twitter page. https://twitter.com/JQ_co2023/status/1445906096871276547?s=20 Roberts averaged 11.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game for the 2020-21 campaign at North.  And those are numbers likely to see a big boost in the upcoming campaign.  He surged over the summer for Adidas sponsored Indiana Elite, including 40 and 35 point outbursts in the final weekend against national high-end…

Indiana fans won’t hear the voice of Dan Dakich calling IU basketball games on ESPN anymore, but at least for those based in Indianapolis, they might be hearing much more from the 1980s IU basketball guard in the future. Dakich recently parted ways with ESPN.  He’ll no longer be calling college basketball games on television, opting instead to add a two hour weekday show on Outkick 360 to his three-hour Indianapolis-based radio show on 107.5 The Fan. But it wasn’t his radio or television gigs that opened Dakich’s eyes to yet another potential job opportunity. As he tours the city…

It doesn’t seem to matter who you ask, most like Indiana basketball to finish right around the middle of the Big Ten in 2021-22. Already at least four well-known annual preseason predictions put the Hoosiers as the No. 7 team in the league for head coach Mike Woodson’s first season. Each of Athlon Sports, Lindy’s, Blue Ribbon and the Big Ten media have the same four teams at the top of the league in slightly different orders — Michigan, Purdue, Ohio State and Illinois.  They all also see Minnesota as the last place team. Change is the new normal in…

There is no way around the fact that the start of the 2021 IU football season has been a disappointment.  And the reason why the Hoosiers are 2-3 to start a highly anticipated campaign that Indiana opened ranked No. 17 isn’t real complicated. It isn’t just that IU has played three of the current top-5 teams in the AP Top-25, including two of those three on the road.  That alone would obviously be a recipe for a slow start by most.  But where things have really gotten sideways is one key stat across those three contests.  Indiana committed a total…

In coordination with The Big Ten conference, the IU basketball program has released television designations and tip times for most of Mike Woodson’s first season as head coach.  The season will begin at 6:30 p.m. Eastern on November 9 when IU hosts Eastern Michigan. The television slate features just one game on subscription-based BTN Plus although that could change.  There are a handful of games for which the tip time is still to be determined including a Big Ten / ACC Challenge contest at Syracuse. IU’s Nov. 27 home game against Marshall is one of the unknown start times.  Presumably…

After a program first Elite Eight appearance in the 2021 NCAA Tournament, the Indiana Women’s Basketball program is both respected and in demand. The Hoosiers are ranked among the top teams in the country, coming in at No. 7 in ESPNW’s Way Too Early Top 25 and No. 8 in the NCAA.com preseason poll. The high expectations come from the fact that IU returns all five starters from last season’s Elite Eight campaign that included a 21-6 overall record and a best-ever 16-2 mark in Big Ten play. Junior forward Mackenzie Holmes and senior guard Grace Berger are All-Americans and…

No part of Indiana’s team has been more impacted by early season injuries than the defensive backfield. And the revolving door on the back end has no doubt played a role when it comes to a lack of takeaways by what was one of the country’s most productive units in 2020.  The Hoosiers have gone from 17 interceptions in eight games last season to just two in five 2021 contests. Already this season both of IU’s starting safeties have missed time, along with its top four cornerbacks on the depth chart. It started in week one when senior safety Devon…
