A position group viewed as having good depth just two months ago is now looked upon as dangerously thin. And rather than injuries, a relatively new dynamic in college sports is the main culprit. Three-year starter Stevie Scott left the program after the 2020 season to put his name in the NFL Draft, but with three program veterans returning there was reason to believe the running back room could be a positive for IU in 2021. Then came the news that former 5-star recruit and USC running back Stephen Carr was transferring in, and the room was looked upon with…

The 6-foot-10 Booker burst onto the scene this spring and summer, flashing his impressive length and face-up game that earned him several high major offers. Below are more than five minutes of highlights from the summer of Booker’s ability to attack the rim, block shots and shoot 3-pointers. Booker is scheduled to take an official visit to Indiana later this month. https://youtu.be/VvhDDXV1KG4 The Daily Hoosier –“Where Indiana fans assemble when they’re not at Assembly” Find us on Facebook: thedailyhoosier You can follow us on Twitter: @daily_hoosier Seven ways…

The company line coming out of Bloomington is who starts at quarterback for Indiana on Saturday against Michigan State is truly a game time decision. Whether that is a bit of competitive gamesmanship by IU or simply the reality, we may never know. But another thing coming out of Bloomington that does seem clear — if Jack Tuttle is the starting quarterback, he will be fully prepared and capable of performing the task at hand. Backing up the oft-injured Michael Penix, Jr. necessitates a ready at a moments notice mentality, and the coaching staff believes Tuttle is uniquely well suited…
Indiana’s final main target in the class of 2022 has a date in mind to announce his college destination. Roebuck, S.C. forward Noah Clowney intends to announce his commitment on Oct. 31 he tells The Daily Hoosier. “I’m almost positive that’s the day,” he told The Daily Hoosier. Clowney announced his final four schools — Indiana, Virginia Tech, Alabama and Florida in August. He has since taken official visits to three of the four and has a visit to Alabama set for Oct. 23. The 6-foot-10 Clowney took his official visit to Indiana in late August. Clowney is currently ranked…

Indiana’s depth at the running back position has taken another hit. At his regular Monday morning press conference, head coach Tom Allen announced that junior David Ellis has had season-ending surgery on his ankle after aggravating a recurring injury against Western Kentucky two weeks ago. “We tried to rehab him and get him back, but that wasn’t working the right way, so for his long-term prognosis, they did [surgery],” Allen said. “He should have a full recovery and we will get him squared away for his future, because he has a bright one. I truly believe that. He has struggled…
Much has changed since Indiana’s dominant 24-0 shutout win over Michigan State in East Lansing 11 months ago. With Tom Allen finding his groove and new Michigan State coach Mel Tucker seemingly in a search for the program floor post Mark Dantonio, it looked like IU had climbed a rung on the Big Ten East ladder for the foreseeable future. The Hoosiers would go on to finish the 2020 season with a 6-1 Big Ten record while Tucker’s Spartans went 2-5. In August ESPN’s FPI system gave then No. 17 IU a 71.5% chance to beat unranked Michigan State. With…
When Indiana fans get their first look at new head coach Mike Woodson’s approach on both ends of the floor in just under a month, it won’t resemble what they reluctantly grew accustomed to over the last four years. The pack-line defense has been packed-up and moved out. Same goes for the more structured offensive approach of the Archie Miller era. And at least until the ball tips on Nov. 9 in Bloomington, the change has produced more smiles from the players — when they catch their breath. One of the overarching themes of Woodson’s approach to the game is…
