Indiana was roadkill once again.  For the fourth time this season and eighth straight true road game overall, the Hoosiers came up empty away from Bloomington, falling 83-74 in Iowa City. IU took a 48-41 lead into halftime, but there were signs of bad things to come as they made mistakes and gave up big scoring runs before the break.  And then Indiana imploded in the second half, with a wave of turnovers while Iowa appeared to give a better effort. Indiana lost to Iowa by a final score of 83-74 at Carver Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City on Thursday evening. Indiana was without its leading scorer on Thursday evening, but the result remained the same as the Hoosiers defeated Nebraska 72-65 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall to move to 13-2 overall and 5-0 in the Big Ten. The No. 6 Hoosiers were led by Grace Berger with 22 points.  Aleksa Gulbe added 17.  Starting center and leading scorer Mackenzie Holmes was out with a knee injury.  With her out, the Hoosiers went with just six players, all of whom played at least 24 minutes. Indiana is set to hire Paul Randolph as its next defensive line coach as first reported by Bruce Feldman of the Athletic. Most recently Randolph held the defensive line coach job at Texas Tech for the last three seasons.  The Red Raiders hired a new head coach in November. Randolph has more than 20 years of collegiate coaching experience with stops at the likes of Alabama, Arizona State and West Virginia. He replaces Kevin Peoples, who left to take the same position at Missouri.  Randolph will work under new defensive coordinator Chad Wilt, who is expected to coach the linebackers.…

Count Mike Woodson among the IU basketball fans who popped open a bottle of champagne last night. Two college basketball teams entered Tuesday with an undefeated record, and both — USC and Baylor — suffered their first defeats of the season. Indiana’s 1976 team was the last to finish a season without a loss of course, and many celebrate each year when the final undefeated team loses. Woodson is one of them. “I know records are meant to be broken, but that’s one record I would never want to see broken,” Woodson said on Wednesday during a Zoom media availability.…

Indiana will still open the 2022 season against a Big Ten West opponent at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, but that foe will no longer be Northwestern. The Big Ten announced a modified 2022 schedule on Wednesday afternoon.  The primary change impacting IU was swapping out Northwestern in that week one slot and replacing them with Illinois.
