Indiana defeated Merrimack by a final score of 81-49 on Sunday afternoon at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind. The Hoosiers led 36-30 at halftime and were led by Trayce Jackson-Davis with 16 points.  Race Thompson added 14 and Jordan Geronimo had 13 and team high 13 rebounds. IU (8-2, 1-1) will return to action on Saturday when they face Notre Dame at The Crossroads Classic in Indianapolis. Indiana added a second running back in as many days as North Carolina transfer Josh Henderson announced he will play in Bloomington in 2022. “100% Committed!  Excited to be a Hoosier!” Henderson wrote in a Twitter post on Sunday afternoon. The 5-foot-11 and 215 pound Henderson appeared in 23 games over three seasons at UNC.  He ran the ball 41 times for 209 yards (5.1 per carry) over his career in Chapel Hill.  Due to the 2020 season not counting against eligibility, he should have two years of eligibility remaining with IU, with a possible third since he only played…

Indiana has seen several players come and go via the transfer portal since the season ended, and the departures continued this week with three more Hoosiers announcing their intent to move on. Indiana picked up a commitment from former Auburn running back Shaun Shivers on Saturday. The 5-foot-7 and 189 pound Shivers played in 43 games for the Tigers from 2018 to 2021. He amassed 201 attempts for 1,020 yards and eight touchdowns during his time with Auburn and added 38 receptions for 211 yards.  He also returned 14 kickoffs for 233 yards. Walt Bell developed a reputation as a bright young offensive mind at Arkansas State. As the offensive coordinator there from 2014 to 2015, he broke records and became one of the hottest up-and-comers in the business. In Bell’s first year at Arkansas State, the Red Wolves broke five school records on the offensive side of the ball. The high-tempo offense posted 6,194 yards of total offense, averaged 476.5 yards per game, ran 1,024 plays, scored 477 points and totaled 65 touchdowns.
