Despite playing nine Big Ten games in the grueling East Division, IU continues to add stiff non-conference tests to the slate. Indiana University and the University of Virginia football programs announced on Monday afternoon a home-and-home series in 2027 and 2028. The Hoosiers will travel to Charlottesville on Sept. 4, 2027, and host the Cavaliers on Sept. 16, 2028. IU and UVA have split the previous four meetings in the series. Indiana pulled away for a 64-56 win over Notre Dame in Indianapolis on Saturday afternoon after some back-and-forth moments. The Hoosiers finished with the best record in the 11-year history of the Crossroads Classic at 8-3, wining its last five games in the event. Indiana freshman guard Tamar Bates will not be available for IU against Notre Dame on Saturday at the Crossroads Classic. According to sources he is not with the team and attending a family funeral. The Kansas City, Kansas native has appeared in all 10 games for IU off the bench.  He is averaging 6.7 points per game. One of the college basketball season’s marquee nonconference matchups was suddenly cancelled on Thursday afternoon when it broke Ohio State had multiple cases of COVID-19 within its program. According to the Columbus Dispatch, the Ohio State program is fully-vaccinated, and beyond obvious concerns about emerging COVID-19 variants and declining vaccine effectiveness, the incident calls into question the Big Ten’s policy for the 2021-22 season, which provides for forfeiture of league contests rather than rescheduling when teams have cases of the virus. He just needed a couple extra days. Class of 2022 4-star wide receiver Omar Cooper, Jr. signed his national letter of intent on Friday and has now officially joined the IU football program.
