Indiana has made a late addition to its recruiting class of 2022 on the traditional national signing day. Alexandria (La.) High School defensive lineman J’Mari Monette has signed to play in Bloomington for the Hoosiers IU announced on its Twitter page on Wednesday. According to the 247Sports Composite, Monette is a 3-star prospect, the No. 1139 overall player in the class of 2022 and the No. 139 defensive lineman. “He’s a big, athletic defensive lineman,” Tom Allen said of Monette on Wednesday.  “Played defensive end in high school, played a little inside, we expect him to be a three-technique.  Just…

Indiana is relatively healthy right now and has been throughout Mike Woodson’s first season in Bloomington. After Trey Galloway returned from wrist surgery last month, the Hoosiers have had 12 or 13 scholarship players available for just about every game. Of course the notable exception at this moment is Rob Phinisee, who is dealing with plantar fasciitis.  After Phinisee was unable to finish the Penn State game last week, Woodson said his senior point guard was “day-to-day” when it came to returning to the floor, but he was seen the next day at Maryland in a walking boot and getting…

Disaster appears to have been averted on the recruiting front. Two of Indiana’s top-rated recruits in program history say they intend to stay in Bloomington despite their father leaving the program. Class of 2022 top-100 4-star linebacker Dasan McCullough announced on Tuesday “I’m Home” in a graphic on his Twitter page that included a photo of him wearing an Indiana hat.  His father Deland McCullough, who was Indiana’s running backs coach in 2021, is reportedly leaving IU to take the same position at Notre Dame.  To his son’s post Deland McCullough responded “Yes indeed!” The 6-foot-5 and 235 pound Dasan…

Coming into Mike Woodson’s first season as the Indiana head coach, there was a lot of talk about his preferred 4-out, 1-in offensive system. As that first season progressed and the strengths and weaknesses of the team emerged, however, 4-out largely went, well, out, and a new term — “buddy ball” — was heard with regularity as IU started to play more of a two-man post game with star forwards Race Thompson and Trayce Jackson-Davis. But with Jackson-Davis and Thompson spending more time in the paint, Woodson found himself straying from the offensive system that made him a successful NBA…

A combination of rust and a major void at center meant Indiana couldn’t keep up with No. 6 Michigan on Monday evening. Coming off a 15-day layoff and playing without leading scorer and rebounder Mackenzie Holmes, the No. 5 Hoosiers fell 65-50 in Ann Arbor in a top-10 showdown. A disastrous third quarter that saw Indiana score just six points created one too many deficits to overcome. “Disappointed that we didn’t play very well tonight,” head coach Teri Moren said.  “We’re not a program that makes excuses, but I do think we looked like a team that had been off…

Indiana appears to be losing a position coach and possibly also two of the highest rated recruits in program history in one move. Bruce Feldman of The Athletic is reporting running back coach Deland McCullough is expected to leave IU to take the same position at Notre Dame under new head coach Marcus Freeman.  ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg confirmed the report.  McCullough came back to IU just a year ago from the Kansas City Chiefs. McCullough’s son Dasan has enrolled early at IU as a linebacker in the recruiting class of 2022.  He is the highest rated recruit in program history…
