Indiana lost to Illinois on Saturday afternoon at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington by a final score of 74-57. The Hoosiers led 36-34 at halftime and were led in the game by Race Thompson with 13 points.  Xavier Johnson added 12. Indiana will wear alternate uniforms for the second time during the 2021-22 season on Saturday. For the game against Illinois, the Hoosiers will wear a specially-designed “Cream” jersey from Adidas. While IU Men’s Basketball has long opted to utilize the color of white in place of the official school color of cream in its uniform designs, Saturday’s game against Illinois won’t be the first time that the Hoosiers have worn a Cream jersey. Indiana projects to have front court openings next season, and the working assumption is that they will address those needs via the transfer portal in the spring. When they finally did go in front on an Aleksa Gulbe 3-pointer with 4:26 left in the game, the floodgates opened. Mike Woodson has said he believes his father worked himself to death trying to take care of him and his 11 siblings on the near northeast side of Indianapolis in the ’50s and ’60s. And when Chester Woodson passed away in 1971, a 13-year-old Michael Dean Woodson followed suit — he put his head down and got work. Indiana has offered class of 2025 guard Darryn Peterson, he reported on his Twitter page on Wednesday evening. Peterson is a 6-foot-5 freshman guard at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy in Cuyahoga, Ohio. For AAU basketball he played last spring and summer for Adidas affiliated Wildcats Select based out of Pennsylvania.  He played up two age groups for most of 2021 and at times three. Juwan Burgess will seek a sixth season in college football elsewhere. A redshirt senior in 2021 for Indiana, Burgess played in 11 games as a reserve safety and on special teams.  He registered 14 tackles including one for a loss.  Over his four year playing career he appeared in 42 games and had 76 tackles including five for loss to go with three passes defended, two forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.  He redshirted the 2017 season. Indiana head football coach Tom Allen announced on Wednesday the signing of defensive lineman J’mari Monette and quarterback Brendan Sorsby to National Letters of Intent to play for the Hoosiers in 2022. Monette and Sorsby close out IU’s signing class at 32 student-athletes. Twenty-two of the 32 signed National Letters of Intent, while 10 transfers will suit up for Indiana in the fall.
