Selection Sunday is just under four weeks away, and with IU basketball in the mix The Daily Hoosier will check in each week to see where they stand in the eyes of the bracketologists. Our favorite resource for bracket predictions is bracketmatrix.com, an aggregation site that compiles dozens of prognostications and produces an average. As it stands on Monday, Feb. 14 at Bracket Matrix, Indiana is in in the field as a No. 10 seed. That reflects a three seed drop after two losses last week at Northwestern and Michigan State. It is fair to now call the Hoosiers a bubble…

Numbers can be misinterpreted, and used to fit just about any narrative. But in the case of Indiana’s offense, this seems about right — statistically speaking the Hoosiers have just had their three worst games of the season, back-to-back-to-back. And by no coincidence, IU is on a three-game losing streak at just about the worst time of year. Here are the easy numbers to understand — Indiana has averaged just 56.3 points per game over the last three games. In those games they had their three lowest amount of points per possession on the season, and their three worst effective…
Not sure who to cheer for in tonight’s game? There is a deep IU connection on the Rams sideline. Los Angeles head coach Sean McVay’s father Tim was a two-time IU football captain (1976, 1977) playing under head coach Lee Corso. McVay played safety for IU from 1974 to 1977 and he played in the 1977 Can-Am Bowl. According to Sports Reference, McVay posted 178 total tackles, including 11.0 tackles for loss over his IU career. He had two interceptions, a fumble recovery and a defensive touchdown for the Hoosiers. As a senior in 1977, McVay posted career highs of…
We are not in crisis mode quite yet, but Indiana finds itself in an all too familiar February free fall. There were promising moments at The Breslin Center — a 9-5 start, a 9-0 late first half run and an 8-0 start to the second half. But those stretches were the exceptions, and a 22-7 Michigan State run in the game’s final ten minutes the final dagger in a third straight loss for IU. Let’s take a deeper look at how the Hoosiers fell with another edition of The Report Card. IU (16-8 7-7) will host Wisconsin on Tuesday evening…

Michigan State did Indiana a favor earlier in the week by knocking Michigan out of first place, elevating the Hoosiers into the top spot. On Saturday in Bloomington, the hosts showed MSU no gratitude. A dominant third quarter that saw IU extend a five point halftime margin to a 62-41 advantage was the difference as Grace Berger scored 17 of her career-high 29 points in that decisive ten minutes. “Great win against an opponent that just knocked off Michigan the other night, so give our kids credit for showing up in a big kind of way and getting a big…
