Indiana wrapped up a hectic spring and summer, full of live viewings and official visits. Now it is closing time with the class of 2023, as head coach Mike Woodson looks to deliver on the first recruiting class that he’s been involved with for a full year as the leader of IU basketball. Where do things stand with IU’s 2023 recruiting class? Here’s a complete recap. The current class Indiana’s 2023 class got off to a fast start with commitments last fall from a pair of guards — Newton, Ga. combo Jakai Newton, and Centerville, Ohio point Gabe Cupps. Newton…

A year after pulling together the best recruiting class in program history during the rankings era, the raw numbers don’t paint a pretty picture for 2023. Not so far, anyway.  Or at least not at first blush. After picking up a commitment from offensive lineman Tyler “Bubba” Jeffries on Tuesday, Indiana has eight commits in its 2023 class.  According to 247Sports, that’s five less 2023 commits than anyone else in the Big Ten. Taken at face value, those are numbers that could send a seemingly always skeptical fan base into a panic. Did a 2-10 season squash IU’s recruiting momentum? …

It’s not a Penix vs. Ramsey situation, or Sudfeld vs. Roberson if you prefer. Those were two of IU football’s better quarterback competitions over the last decade, and there were other good ones along the way. But the Hoosiers are technically entering fall camp this week with a quarterback competition ongoing. Who will start behind center when IU opens the 2022 season under the lights on Sept. 2 in Bloomington? Ask anyone and they’ll tell you it’ll be Missouri transfer Connor Bazelak, and that does indeed seem to be an educated guess after he arrived at IU with 20 starts…

His profile has risen nearly as fast as he gets off the floor. And that’s saying something. “He’s got a 7-foot-4 wingspan, he’s 6-foot-10 and a half, and he jumps extremely quick. He doesn’t need to get himself adjusted and then go back up. He just springs up,” Indiana Elite Director Mark Adams told The Daily Hoosier. Less than a year ago, Flory Bidunga arrived in the U.S. from the Democratic Republic of the Congo as an unknown in college basketball recruiting circles. Now he is rated as a 5-star prospect in the class 2024, and every high-major college basketball…

Indiana continued to expand its list of targets in the 2024 class this summer when it offered Caleb Williams last week. The 6-foot-7 Williams announced the offer on his Twitter page. “Extremely blessed and honored to receive an offer from Indiana University!” he wrote. Williams is from the Washington D.C. area where he attends Sidwell Friends H.S. Playing for Team Takeover’s 16U team this spring and summer, Williams was a key part of that squad as it claimed a Peach Jam championship last weekend. For Sidwell, Williams made the game-winning shot in the DC State Athletic Association (DCSAA) boys’ basketball…

Rather than retire the jersey of a legend, Indiana has decided to honor one of the program’s most iconic players in a unique way. “We have begun a new tradition at Indiana that I’m excited about, honoring George Taliaferro in a very specific way” IU football coach Tom Allen said at the Big Ten media day last week. Often referred to as the “Jackie Robinson of the NFL”, Taliaferro was the first African-American drafted into the NFL. The Chicago Bears took him with their 13th round pick in 1949. As a freshman at IU, Taliaferro became the first African-American to…

Indiana fans will be able to keep a close eye on whether Xavier Booker can reach his enormous potential. But the 6-foot-11 Indianapolis (Cathedral H.S.) product won’t be playing in Bloomington.  At least not more than once a year. Instead Booker has chosen to stay in the Big Ten and play for Michigan State and head coach Tom Izzo, he announced on Saturday. Booker had just announced a top-10 earlier in the week that included IU, Purdue and mostly other regional schools.  But as the week wore on it became clear that the stretch-four was focused on East Lansing as…
