What a difference a year makes. Last year’s darlings of the Big Ten East are this year’s dead last team. That was the pattern on the field from 2020 to 2021, and many of those who cover the Big Ten for a living believe IU will stay on the bottom in 2022. Of course those same voters had it all wrong last summer when it came to Indiana. A year ago the annual poll had IU finishing third in the Big Ten East before they went 0-9 in league play. This year the same preseason vote resulted in the Hoosiers…

It’s hard to say much definitive about the recruitment of players with three years of high school left. But when it comes to class of 2025 in-state prospects Trent Sisley and Jalen Haralson, Indiana’s actions this week made it clear both players are high priorities to the program despite their young ages. It’s also safe to say the interest runs both ways. August 1 is the first day class of 2025 players can take on campus visits, and on that day Haralson will take an unofficial to Bloomington, followed by Sisley the next day. During recruiting live periods, which only…
The final live recruiting period of July always brings a flurry of recruiting updates from around the country. Class of 2023 recruitments are beginning to wind down, and schools are showing their hand with respect to their priority targets in 2024 and beyond. The Daily Hoosier was at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam in South Carolina and Georgia, and we’ll have plenty of updates in the coming days beyond our first stories on 2023 forward T.J. Power and 2024 forward Liam McNeeley. Below are a few noteworthy updates from other national reports. Mustaf Eyeing IU Visit After he finished with…
Class of 2024 forward Liam McNeeley is playing up a year on the Nike EYBL circuit, but you’d never know it by just watching him. A top-15 five-star prospect who will attend Montverde Academy for the upcoming year, McNeeley will end up as one of the more coveted national prospects in his class due to his combination of shooting ability and ball-handling to go with his strong 6-foot-7 frame, basketball savvy, and tough-minded approach to the game. Indiana has been pushing on McNeeley since the early spring, and they are one of the schools pursuing him the hardest right now…
The Daily Hoosier is back for another day of action at the Peach Jam in North Augusta S.C. and Augusta, Ga. Stay tuned to this thread for updates throughout the day. For yesterday’s live blog, GO HERE. ————– Today I am starting out at the Westside H.S. in Augusta to check out the 2024 Indy Heat. That team includes 2025 in-state stars Jalen Haralson (Fishers H.S.) and Trent Sisley (Heritage Hills H.S.). Indiana has offered both prospects, and is also taking a close look at 2024 in-state wing Kanon Catchings (Brownsburg H.S.), who visited recently. IU assistants Brian Walsh and…
Every coach tells every recruiting prospect they are a priority. But after arranging to have his entire staff front and center for T.J. Power’s game on Wednesday at the Peach Jam, IU basketball coach Mike Woodson could say it with a straight face. Again on Thursday IU had two coaches in North Augusta watching Power’s BABC squad, and in between those two contests, the 6-foot-8 Massachusetts forward had a call with the Indiana head coach. What Power saw with four coaches in attendance for one of his games, Woodson backed up with words. “I talked to Coach Woodson today, and…

He…
The Hoosier Ticket Project has launched its first Giving Blitz, an online fundraising drive. The Giving Blitz is a nationwide 24-hour fundraising campaign to promote the project’s mission, share its impact on the community, and raise funds for the 2022-23 football and basketball seasons. The Hoosier Ticket Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that wants to remove financial barriers preventing fans from attending Indiana University athletic events in person by leveraging the generosity of alumni and fans. Through ticket donations and financial gifts, the Hoosier Ticket Project provides tickets to individuals and families, helps the athletic department increase attendance, and gives…
“I don’t fool with social media. … That’s just not my makeup,” IU basketball head coach Mike Woodson said back in February. “I wish our players would follow that same note in what I’m saying. Leave it alone and concentrate on getting an education and playing basketball. That’s what it’s all about.” Woodson is putting his reputation where is mouth is. HOUR25.AI, an algorithm-based digital platform that says it is combating a trillion-dollar problem to reduce Internet addictions, increase resiliency and improve well-being at home and at work, announced that Woodson has joined as an Executive Athletic Advisory Board member…
Wednesday marked the first day of the final live recruiting period of the summer, and the IU basketball staff went “all in” at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam in North Augusta, S.C. Multiple reports indicated Indiana head coach Mike Woodson was at the event along with assistant coaches Kenya Hunter, Yasir Rosemond and Brian Walsh. The Daily Hoosier was able to confirm those reports via sources. NCAA rules limit to four the amount of staff members a program can put out on the road during a live recruiting period when they watch prospects play AAU basketball. With other events going…
