After starting the 2021 season ranked in the top-20 and finishing 2-10, IU football coach Tom Allen knew offseason change was necessary. Some of the adjustments included the coaches, as Allen fired offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan and welcomed five new position coaches/coordinators during the offseason, an amount representing half of the staff. Indiana has also been very active in the transfer portal. The Hoosiers have brought in 15 new players since the end of the season, and lost 27 via the portal. Despite the discrepancy in those two figures, that change may prove to be a net positive. But those…

Indiana offered Montverde Academy 5-star forward Malik Reneau back in 2021, but it was a pursuit that didn’t last long. Head coach Mike Woodson knew it was going to be an uphill battle, and it was. “I knew I had no shot at him early on and he committed to go to Florida,” Woodson recalled at an alumni event in May. Florida head coach Mike White left for Georgia after former IU coach Tom Crean was fired, and Woodson grinned as someone in the crowd reminded him of that turn of events and laughter ensued. White’s departure led to Reneau…
Campus Ink and Indiana University have announced an agreement that will provide Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) merchandising opportunities for all IU student-athletes, the school announced on Friday. In the fall, the NIL Store powered by Campus Ink will launch a complete merchandising store for Indiana student-athletes, featuring officially licensed ‘shirseys’ and apparel. Every athlete will possess a personalized digital locker room which will house their merchandise. Founded in 1947, Campus Ink announced an investment from famous IU billionaire alumnus Mark Cuban in March. “I’m really excited that the leading NIL company, Campus Ink, and the best university on the…

Indiana already has one player from southwest Ohio in Logan Duncomb, and a commit in Gabe Cupps. It’s an area where IU has good connections, and another player they are keeping a close eye on is 2024 power forward Tyler McKinley. Indiana hasn’t offered McKinley to this point but the staff should be able to get a good look at him at the program’s team camp in Bloomington this weekend. The Cincinnati, Ohio product will be playing there with his Walnut Hills H.S. team. As a sophomore at Walnut Hills, McKinley earned Division I All-Ohio honorable mention honors as he…
We promise we’ll stop with sharing college basketball preseason prognostications here in June, still more than five months away from the start of the season. And further below, we’ll provide you with a cautionary tale. But it continues to be amazing how the tide has turned for an Indiana program that was 16-10 in late February and on a five-game losing streak, and then seemingly on its way to the NIT after a lackluster first 28 minutes against Michigan at the Big Ten Tournament. Just a few months later, we can’t find an outlook for the 2022-23 Hoosiers that places…
In April of 1999, former Indiana Mr. Basketball and McDonald’s All-American Luke Recker announced he was transferring away from the IU basketball program. The news came at a time when transfers were rare in college basketball. There was no transfer portal, and players had to sit out a season if they chose to move on to another school. Recker had scored nearly 1,000 points in two seasons at IU, and he was third team All-Big Ten as a sophomore. The idea of transferring was painful for the Waterloo, Ind. product. “This is the toughest decision I have ever made,” he…
Who will be the stars of the 2022 IU football team? Believe it or not, the Hoosiers kick off the season three months from today under the lights against Illinois, and that means we have unofficially started preseason awards and recognition season. Indiana will be on a mission to prove their 2-10 2021 season was the fluke rather than the 2019 and 2020 campaigns that saw the Hoosiers go a combined 14-7. According to Athlon Sports, six Hoosiers will headline that effort to put IU back in contention for a bowl game. Half of them dealt with injuries in 2021…
By now you’ve seen the predictions, Indiana is emerging as a favorite to win the Big Ten in 2022-23. Several factors are contributing to that notion. First, Indiana has a top ten national recruiting class coming in this fall, and it is viewed as one of if not the best in the Big Ten, right along with Ohio State, Illinois and Michigan. A least two members of the class, top-30 prospects Jalen Hood-Schifino and Malik Reneau, are widely viewed as players who can come in and contribute meaningfully from day one. Second, the Hoosiers are bringing back All-Big Ten forward…
