Indiana head coach Mike Woodson is going to shake up his lineup when Big Ten play resumes. The first AP top-25s of 2023 were released on Monday, and the IU men’s and women’s basketball programs made slight moves in opposite directions. The IU men moved up one spot to No. 15 despite not playing a game over the last week.  The Hoosiers return to action on Thursday at Iowa, a team that has lost four of its last five games. For the second straight season, Purdue has reached the top of national polls and positioned themselves as the leading contender to win the Big Ten. Indiana’s secondary got a second boost in as many days when defensive back Noah Pierre announced his return for a sixth season on New Year’s Eve. Pierre started all 12 games at the husky position in 2022 and had 39 tackles including 25 solo.  He added three sacks, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, three pass breakups and a quarterback hit. According to PFF, Pierre was Indiana’s second highest graded pass rusher with more than 25 rushes, and he was respectable in coverage, but he did not achieve high marks as a run defender. In a game played on New Year’s Eve at Arizona Stadium in Tucson, Indiana dominated a once 5-0 and No. 8 ranked Baylor team in the Copper Bowl, 24-0. There aren’t many returns via the transfer portal, but a veteran IU safety has decided to run it back with the Hoosiers. An injury to San Antonio starter Devin Vassell meant former IU basketball one-and-done start Romeo Langford got a chance to start on Friday night. The New Albany, Ind. product was up to the challenge.
