Indiana has a new player as the highest ranked recruit in its 2023 class. The Hoosiers landed a signing day commitment and signature from Shreveport, Louisiana edge rusher Ta’Derius Collins. At 6-foot-4, 250 pounds Collins is ranked the No. 429 player in the nation for the 2023 cycle according to the 247Sports Composite. Collins also ranks as the No. 44 edge rusher in the country and the No. 18 player from the state of Louisiana. Indiana guard Xavier Johnson had surgery on his broken right foot on Wednesday, The Daily Hoosier can confirm. Jeff Goodman of Stadium first reported the news via Twitter. “This is going to bring the best version out of me,” Johnson said on Twitter soon after the news broke.  “Thanking everyone for their support. 0 gone be back on the court soon.” Indiana is unable to confirm a recovery timeline for Johnson at this time, saying only that he is out “indefinitely.”  Head coach Mike Woodson cast doubt on whether Johnson will return this season when he said “we’ll wait on…

Indiana has picked up a signing day commitment from California based cornerback Jordan Shaw. He announced the decision at a ceremony at his high school, and spoke to national 247Sports reporter Greg Biggins about his decision. “I loved it out there,” Shaw told Biggins. “I really liked the players and coaches on the team and felt a family bond with everyone right away. “I liked the campus and the overall atmosphere. Indiana announced the signing of JUCO transfer defensive back Jamison Kelly on Wednesday morning. At 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, Kelly has a frame that could work at strong safety or the hybrid safety/linebacker husky position.  He has two years of eligibility remaining. Kelly had announced a top-five of Jacksonville State, Tennessee State, UTEP, Austin Peay and Louisiana Monroe.  He verbally committed to Jacksonville State earlier this month before IU got heavily involved and had him come for a visit. Playing time is wide open at cornerback for IU in 2023, and the Hoosiers added a surprise addition on Wednesday to help fill the void. The IU football program announced the signing of University of Texas transfer cornerback Jamier Johnson on Wednesday morning. The 6-foot, 175-pound Johnson announced his departure from Texas in late November, and he formally entered the transfer portal two weeks ago. The injuries are mounting for Indiana. The Hoosiers were without three main rotation players on Tuesday evening when they faced Elon in Bloomington. Coach Mike Woodson said junior forward Jordan Geronimo came up to him before the game and said he was unable to play against the Phoenix. “Jordan’s injury is a dislocated finger, and he tried to go a little yesterday,” Woodson said on Tuesday evening following Indiana’s 96-72 win over Elon. Indiana added class of 2023 wide receiver Derrick Bohler on Tuesday evening. The 6-foot-2 and 196-pound Bohler announced the news on his Twitter page. According to the On3 Consensus, Bohler is a 3-star, the No. 1,068 overall player in the class, and the No. 162 wide receiver. Bohler attends Palmetto H.S. in Miami, Fla.  He took an official visit to Indiana over the weekend. Indiana was led in the game by Race Thompson with 18 points and 11 rebounds.  Jalen Hood-Schifino added 17 points and 7 rebounds.  The Hoosiers led at the half 47-29. Indiana forward Trayce Jackson-Davis is not in uniform for pre-game warmups on Tuesday evening as the Hoosiers get set to face Elon. Jackson-Davis missed a game earlier in the season against Little Rock due to a back injury.  He has also dealt with a right thumb injury during the first month of the season. Indiana released the following brief statement on Jackson-Davis: “As he did earlier this season against Little Rock, senior Trayce Jackson-Davis will not play for precautionary reasons,” IU Athletics said.
