With win No. 189, Indiana’s Teri Moren became the all-time winningest coach in program history on Wednesday evening when the Hoosiers defeated No. 21 Illinois 83-72 in Champaign. Moren passed Jim Izard’s 188 wins that he amassed over 12 seasons (1988-00). She was already the program’s all-time winningest coach in Big Ten play, and now has 89 victories against league foes. Now in her ninth season with Indiana women’s basketball, the Seymour, Ind. native has taken the program to new levels during her tenure, and appears to have her best team yet in 2023. “When I was recruited by IU,…
Indiana quietly lost senior director of recruiting Lee Wilbanks during the offseason. He’s now with Mississippi State according to his Twitter bio. According to reports on Tuesday, they’ve found a replacement from the SEC. As first reported by Matt Zenitz of On3, IU will hire former Auburn director of player personnel Steven Ruzic as its “general manager.” Indiana confirmed the report on Wednesday evening and listed Ruzic as an Assistant AD for Recruiting. At Auburn Ruzic’s role was to oversee all recruiting evaluations and the recruiting pipeline, and to assist with overseeing and managing the recruiting department & its operations.…
Believe it or not, Indiana has played more than half of its 2022-23 regular season games. And by this point we typically have a pretty good read on the identity of each edition of IU basketball — strengths, weaknesses, tendencies, and so on. So as we do around this time each season, let’s take a deep dive into the advanced statistics to see what they can add to our understanding of this year’s team. Below we’ll focus on games against top-100 opponents — nine of IU’s 17 games played to this point — thereby eliminating all of the games against…
The transfer portal continues to be a two-way street for Indiana. While there has been plenty of positive news lately, the Hoosiers have seen multiple key players from the 2022 squad announce their intent to leave IU over the last few weeks. This might be the end of the portal departure announcements, at least for now. The current window to enter the portal ends on Jan. 19. There is a second window following spring practice. Note that a player who enters the portal during the established windows can choose his next destination outside of the window. Here are the latest…
The clock is ticking. We are past the midpoint of January, and Indiana has just 14 regular season games remaining. There’s less than eight weeks to Selection Sunday. With an 11-6 overall record and a 2-4 mark in league play, IU is no lock to make the NCAA Tournament. That is a shocking thing to say about a team that was a preseason Big Ten favorite, and 7-0 and ranked in the top-10 six weeks ago. So time is running out for the Hoosiers to get back to full strength and revive their once promising season. Down two veteran starters,…
Dusty May grew up playing high school basketball in the shadow of Bloomington at nearby Eastern Greene High School. He knew he wanted to be a coach, and he didn’t have to look very far to find a good one to learn from. But May needed a break to garner one of IU’s highly sought after manager positions in 1996. As it turned out, mowing team doctor Larry Rink’s lawn would be the first of many breaks for May. That connection was enough to get him into the IU program as a team manager after playing Division II basketball for…
Coming on the heels of a three-game losing streak, an 18-point win over then No. 18 Wisconsin was not enough for IU men’s basketball to receive even a vote for the AP top-25. After falling out of the top-25 last week, this week marks the first time the Hoosiers have fallen completely out of the votes this season. From the Big Ten, Purdue is leading the way at No. 3 this week, and Rutgers made their season debut in the top-25 at No. 23. No one else from the Big Ten is ranked right now. Illinois, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Ohio…
Watch as IU basketball coach Mike Woodson sat down with CBS analyst Clark Kellogg leading up to Indiana’s game against Wisconsin. The pair discussed their legendary meeting in 1980 with the Big Ten title on the line, Woodson’s second season in Bloomington, and the importance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend. The video was shot by CBS Sports at Cook Hall in Bloomington. https://twitter.com/CBSSportsCBB/status/1614330355716349952?s=20&t=8yjZ0AJniL1Ro1ulm3P8fw The Daily Hoosier –“Where Indiana fans assemble when they’re not at Assembly” Find us on Facebook: thedailyhoosier You can follow us on Twitter: @daily_hoosier Seven ways to support completely free IU coverage at no cost to you.
After a first half with little offense from either side, Indiana pulled away after the break against Wisconsin on Saturday with a flurry of scores. The Hoosiers appeared to mix in a combination of set plays with some read-and-react concepts, and for a while everything was clicking as IU opened the second session with an 18-2 run. How’d they awake from the first half slumber? Let’s take a look with another edition of film study. FREEING UP TJD’s LEFT HAND Indiana started the second half with a four-out set with Trayce Jackson-Davis positioned on the low block. Jalen Hood-Schifino made…
