Brendan Sorsby has looked like he might be on to something over the last few weeks. If it’s taking a minute for the redshirt freshman to get into a rhythm, that’s understandable on multiple levels. Going back to the spring, the Texas native’s reps have been limited as he competed with Tayven Jackson for the starting job. But over the last three weeks, Sorsby has completed 47-of-81 passes (58 percent) with five touchdowns and one interception. He’s added two rushing scores. And of course last weekend, the 6-foot-3 Sorsby led the Hoosiers to an upset win over Wisconsin. What’s starting…
Class of 2024 top-20 big man Derik Queen has had a lot of people guessing. Just days after all three of the main national recruiting outlets suggested Queen was likely to announce a commitment during the Nov. 8-15 early signing period, it now appears the Baltimore, Md. product needs more time to make a decision on what college he’ll attend next year. 247Sports national analyst Travis Branham is reporting Friday morning via sources close to Queen no decision is expected to be forthcoming over the next few days. The source told Branham Queen intends to watch his top teams play…
Everybody saw the floor in Indiana’s 96-43 season opening win over Eastern Illinois. The Hoosiers scored the last eight points of the first quarter to take a 29-14 lead and never looked back in front of 8,380 at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Thursday evening. Led by 9-of-10 effort from the field by Mackenzie Holmes, and 7-of-7 by Lexus Bargesser off the bench, IU shot 79.5 percent from 2-point range. Four Indiana players scored in double figures, with Holmes pouring in 19. Bargesser and Yarden Garzon added 15, and Sara Scalia had 13. On the other end IU forced 22…
In accordance with Big Ten rules, Indiana will be posting an availability report before every game this year. Expect to see freshman guard Jakai Newton’s name on it for a while. The 6-foot-3 and 203-pound Georgia native had a knee procedure in August, was at IU’s media day in September on crutches, and was walking with a limp at Hoosier Hysteria a few weeks ago. According to coach Mike Woodson, Newton is slowly but surely making progress and rejoining some team activities, but he’s got a long way to go, and notably, may not play at all this season. “Early…
After winning the Big Ten regular season crown a year ago, Indiana hopes there’s no fall from Grace in 2023-24. The Hoosiers return most of the key contributors from last year’s team, but they do face the reality of playing without Grace Berger for the first time in five years. Berger recently completed a successful rookie season with the Indiana Fever. Berger concluded her five-year career with 1,841 points, 573 assists and 752 rebounds. She ranks seventh all-time in scoring and second in all-time assists, while playing in 148 career games, making 118 career starts and becoming the all-time winningest…
Today is the first day of the early November signing period, and Indiana has announced 2024 5-star forward Liam McNeeley has signed his national letter of intent. IU head coach Mike Woodson released a statement on the Montverde Academy product. “Liam is a very smart basketball player who will bring leadership, skill, and high-level shooting to our ball club,” Woodson said. “He is a selfless player that will do everything he can to help us win games. His versatility and shooting ability really stood out to our staff throughout the recruiting process. He plays the game the right way, he…
If Indiana wanted to be tested right out of the gate, they got it. The Hoosiers were never able to pull out to more than a six point lead through the first 29 minutes on Tuesday evening against Florida Gulf Coast in the 2023-24 season opener. They led by just two at halftime (28-26), and an 8-0 FGCU run put the Eagles up 48-42 with 10:54 left in the contest. But IU responded immediately with a 14-0 run, and although things got interesting in the final minute, they’d never trail again. Let’s take a deeper look at how the Hoosiers…
