Last weekend Boogie Fland told The Daily Hoosier he was looking at dates for a June official visit to Indiana. According to multiple reports, the 5-star will come to Bloomington June 13-15. Indiana offered Fland more than a year ago and didn’t appear to be a significant player in his recruitment for most of that span.  But things have picked up considerably over the last month. Indiana has formally entered the mix for the top-ranked player in the class of 2025 from the state of Kentucky. Jasper Johnson announced an offer from IU on his Instagram page on Thursday evening. Best thought of as a combo-guard, Johnson is the No. 26 overall player in the 2025 class according to the On3 Industry Average. The 6-foot-4 Johnson took multiple gameday visits to IU during the 2022-23 season. Johnson is also a quarterback for his Woodford County high school football team. The Big Ten appears to be stacked after a wave of players exited the 2023 NBA Draft on Wednesday and opted to return to college. The decisions mean the league likely has two preseason top-10 teams. The headline announcement came from Purdue’s Zach Edey.  The 7-foot-4 national player of the year is coming back to West Lafayette to defend Big Ten regular season and conference tournament titles and avenge an embarrassing NCAA Tournament loss.  The Boilermakers will try to run it back with mostly the same team from last season.  They lost Brandon Newman and David Jenkins from their 2022-23…

With one scholarship available for the 2023-24 season, Indiana isn’t done in the transfer portal. On Wednesday evening, Joe Tipton of On3 announced that IU is one of five schools being considered by Dayton transfer wing Mike Sharavjamts. A product of Mongolia, Sharavjamts is the first Division One athlete from that country. Known as “Mongolian Mike,” Sharavjamts will consider Indiana, Memphis, Nebraska, Pitt, and San Francisco.  He withdrew his name from consideration in the NBA Draft on Wednesday.  ESPN’s Jonathan Givony reported Sharavjamts will announce his college decision in the next week. USA Basketball today announced the 35 athletes expected to participate in the 2023 USA U19 Men’s National Team Training Camp at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The expected attendees include IU sophomore center Kel’el Ware, and multiple priority class of 2024 recruiting targets, including Boogie Fland, Liam McNeeley, Derik Queen, Asa Newell and Dylan Harper. The 7-foot- Ware represented USA Basketball winning a gold medal at the 2022 FIBA U18 Americas Championship in Tijuana, Mexico. In just over three weeks Jalen Hood-Schifino and Trayce Jackson-Davis will nervously await a phone call during the 2023 NBA Draft. Both players are widely expected to be chosen, and when that happens they’ll give IU their first NBA Draft choice since 2019 (Romeo Langford), and the first time they’ve had two players go in one draft since 2017 (Thomas Bryant and OG Anunoby). Seven former IU basketball players saw minutes in the NBA this season. Three of them are with teams in the 2023 NBA Finals. The Miami Heat and the Denver Nuggets will begin a seven-game series this week.  Former Indiana center Cody Zeller and guard Victor Oladipo are with the Heat, while center Thomas Bryant is with the Nuggets. How much they play remains to be seen. Oladipo is certain to not play at all after suffering a season-ending knee injury a month ago.  He averaged 10.7 points in 42 games for Miami before the injury. IU baseball has received an at large invite to the 2023 NCAA Tournament. After the sixth 40-win regular season in program history, the Hoosiers will take part in the Lexington Regional.
