The addition of Oregon transfer big man Kel’el Ware is official, the IU basketball program announced on Friday morning. Indiana fans will have to wait a bit longer for a decision from Harvard transfer forward Chris Ledlum The 6-foot-6 Ledlum took an official visit at IU last weekend that overlapped some with now committed big man Kel’el Ware. But unlike Ware, Ledlum has decided to take additional visits before choosing a transfer destination. Ledlum will officially visit Tennessee beginning Thursday evening through Saturday, Andrew Slater of Cerebro reports. Then he’ll visit St. John’s on Sunday. Indiana offered one of the more impressive wings in the class of 2024 on Wednesday evening. Junior forward V.J. Edgecombe announced an offer from IU on his Twitter page. Edgecombe is one of the hottest names in the class of 2024.  He’s made major moves in the rankings over the last six months, debuting in most national top-50s at this point.  Edgecombe came in at No. 24 in the On3 update last week. Former IU forward Race Thompson is one of 64 college basketball seniors invited to the Portsmouth (Va.) Invitational Tournament, an event that has showcased players abilities in front of professional scouts since 1953. The 12-game tournament begins tonight at 7 p.m. when his team, Portsmouth Sports Club, faces Mike Duman Auto Sales. Games can be watched via a stream for a fee here. Thompson played 130 games in his career and scored 997 points.  He averaged 7.7 points and 5.5 rebounds and shot 51.1% from the floor. The Big Ten Conference has a new leader. The league announced on Wednesday that Tony Petitti will serve as its new commissioner, effective next month. Petitti will replace Kevin Warren, who served in the role for nearly four years before taking an executive position with the Chicago Bears. Indiana hasn’t had any players selected in the NBA Draft since Romeo Langford in 2019, but that will almost certainly change in June. Both Jalen Hood-Schifino and Trayce Jackson-Davis have trended favorably over the last few months, and both are now widely expected to be chosen on June 22 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Watch below as IU football wide receiver Donaven McCulley met with the media this week at spring practice. McCulley switched from quarterback to wide receiver following his 2021 freshman campaign. The 6-foot-5 McCulley caught 16 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown in 2022. For the second time in six years, the NBA steals king is a former Hoosier. Toronto Raptors forward OG Anunoby finished the 2022-23 NBA season with the most steals per game, 1.9, and total steals, 128, in the league this year.  He’s the first ever Raptors player to claim the league’s steals crown. Anunoby follows Victor Oladipo as the other former IU player to lead the league in steals per game.  Oladipo averaged 2.4 in the 2017-18 campaign. With the frontcourt taking shape, Indiana’s transfer portal focus shifts to the backcourt. One name that emerged over the weekend was Louisville transfer guard El Ellis. A Durham, N.C. product, Ellis is said to be focused on the NBA Draft as his primary option.  In fact, he told 247Sports national analyst Travis Branham that a two-way deal (i.e. hybrid NBA/G-League contract) might be enough to push him towards the pro route. Indiana has hit a home run in the transfer portal. 7-foot Oregon transfer center Kel’el Ware has committed to the Hoosiers soon after an official visit to Bloomington.  He is the No. 7 overall players and the No. 2 center in the portal according to On3. Hailing from Little Rock, Ark., Ware was a 5-star and top-10 recruit out of high school in the class of 2022.
