Strong quarterback play was a common denominator across the four Big Ten teams that made the College Football Playoff in 2024. And the league projects to have some strong play behind center once again in 2025. CBS Sports ranked the anticipated starters in the league for 2025 1-18, and the results are promising for Indiana in more ways than one. First, IU quarterback Fernando Mendoza is slotted as the No. 3 quarterback in the league. IU coach Curt Cignetti has had one of, and often the best quarterback in his league annually going back to his time at James Madison. …

The 1966 Indiana football team gave you no indication that something special was coming. For the 1967 Hoosiers, that was often the case within games as well. Back in ’66, IU didn’t win a game after September, lost 51-6 against Purdue and finished the season 1-8-1. There was more talk about head coach John Pont’s 3-16-1 record after two seasons than any notion of a breakout 1967 campaign. But Pont knew something that many did not when it came to his 1967 Hoosiers — the young guns were coming. Harry Gonso, John Isenbarger and Jade Butcher were only sophomores, but…

Former Indiana linebacker Jailin Walker was a surprising first IU casualty of NFL roster cut season. The Los Angeles Raiders announced this week they waived him. Walker had signed with the franchise as an undrafted free agent and appeared to be a promising candidate to make the team.  Instead he’ll look to find another opportunity. After transferring to IU from James Madison, Walker earned honorable mention All-Big Ten from the conference coaches and media.  In his last regular season game he garnered Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after amassing 4.0 tackles for loss, one interception and one forced…

We’ve reached the top three in our countdown of the greatest seasons in IU football history. While the order can be debated, and perhaps we left out a few worthy contenders, for the most part the first seven represented the easy part. With a new entry in the mix as recently as last season, and different eras of the sport to consider, determining the top three is a major challenge. For generations there was little doubt — the two greatest seasons in IU football history were 1945 and 1967. But IU’s historic 2024 season is a clearly a contender for…

Curt Cignetti remembers the exact moment when everything changed. With his Hoosiers ranked in the top-5 and 10-0 on the season, Cignetti had led IU to its greatest start in program history — and right into harm’s way. You see, they were disrupting the natural order of college football. You’re adorable Indiana, but don’t you dare harm our traditional powers. “The noise got real, real loud going into the Ohio State game,” Cignetti said yesterday at Big Ten media day. “We went from being the darling story of college football to being like the enemy, the hunted. Like these two…

Kinney is the No .13 overall player in the class and the No. 3 point guard according to the average of the national outlets. While a list cut to 12 isn’t very notable, there are notable aspects to Kinney’s recruitment as it relates to Indiana. First, he made a cut to 15 during the winter and Indiana wasn’t included.  So the new staff has IU back in the picture after they had been…
