That benchmark has been met just three times in the history of Big Ten Women’s Basketball. To reach that mark, IU says they need a crowd of at least 11,835 Sunday. Indiana hosts Maryland at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Sunday at 3 p.m. Three seniors will be honored in their final regular season game at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall on Sunday. Mike Woodson is no stranger to the coaching carousel. Fired by the Atlanta Hawks in 2010 and the New York Knicks in 2014, Woodson knows as well as anyone what happens when losses begin to compound, and expectations are not met. And there is no doubt that a 15-13 season, with a 7-10 record in the Big Ten, is well short of expectations in Bloomington. We wrote in early February after a home blowout loss to Penn State, Woodson could not afford an ugly “lose out” scenario.  If Indiana did that, the heat would have been unbearable. The worst case…

As Kel’el Ware walked back into the IU locker room on Tuesday evening, game ball in hand, he fist-bumped everyone along the way back to his seat. Ware had just made 11 shots (on 12 attempts), and more than half of them (six) were assisted by Trey Galloway.  The 7-footer knew Galloway played a major role in his 27-point performance in a 74-70 win over Wisconsin — an effort that probably moved Ware up NBA Draft boards. Before he sat down, Ware and Galloway connected one more time in the locker room with an embrace. Ware and Galloway had never…

IU coach Mike Woodson has had choice words for his players in the immediate aftermath of multiple losses this season. And let’s be honest, to varying degrees, that’s nothing new in the sports world. At Nebraska in early January, Woodson said his starting guards (Xavier Johnson and Trey Galloway) played “awful.”  After a loss to Northwestern, Woodson called out starting forward Malik Reneau.  “He didn’t play tonight,” Woodson said on his postgame radio spot.  “He was awful.” He’s called out players by name for missing open shots, questioned Kel’el Ware’s toughness in the first game against Purdue, highlighted Galloway’s six…
