The folks who write the algorithms for ESPN’s College Football Power Index (FPI) have apparently not yet followed Curt Cignetti’s instructions. If they Googled him, they’d know he wins much more than what their model is predicting for the 2024 season. After six months of roster overhaul and coaching changes, FPI has been updated for 2024.  And the outlook for Indiana isn’t flattering. FPI says IU is the worst team in the 18-team Big Ten, and the 77th best team in the country. The model does predict improvement, however, when it comes to wins and losses. FPI is predicting 5.3…

Three of IU’s main class of 2025 recruiting targets are expected to take their official visits together in Bloomington the weekend of Sept. 20. The Daily Hoosier can confirm via multiple sources in-state 4-stars Trent Sisley and Braylon Mullins are both confirmed for official visits that weekend, and the expectation is they’ll be joined by 4-star center Malachi Moreno. Indiana has remained in close contact with class of 2026 forward Gabe Weis since his two visits to Bloomington over the last year. Weis visited Indiana when the Hoosiers hosted Ohio State in January, and he was also an attendee at Hoosier Hysteria in October. IU offered the 4-star and national top-75 prospect in January. And the Washington County, Kentucky product’s trajectory has continued to rise since.  Weis announced his transfer from Washington County to Montverde Academy (Fla.) in April.  That’s a school IU has had success recruiting, with both Malik Reneau and Jalen Hood-Schifino arriving from the national prep…

“Coach Woodson, I just want to thank you so much for believing in me for all these years,” IU guard Trey Galloway said at the microphone on Senior Day in March. “I wouldn’t want to have any other coach than you.” Galloway then announced his return to Indiana for a fifth season.  And those comments came just moments after his long-time teammate Anthony Leal said “There’s no other coach in the country that I would trust with anything in my life than coach Woodson.” Both Leal and Galloway put the full weight of their support behind IU head coach Mike…

Just about any way you measure D’Angelo Ponds’ freshman season at James Madison, it was a rousing success. The West Park, Fla. based cornerback arrived in Harrisonburg last summer as a solid recruit for the Dukes, but under the national radar. Ponds was a 3-star prospect out of Chaminade-Madonna Prep H.S. in Miami.  He was ranked the 1,563rd best player in the 2023 class according to On3’s average of the national recruiting sites, and just the No. 140 cornerback.  His only Power Five offer came from Syracuse. Indiana has had success with players who had similar recruiting resumes.  Micah McFadden…

Former IU baseball pitcher Andrew Saalfrank, who was most recently pitching for Triple-A Reno, received a one-year suspension for betting on baseball in 2021 and 2022. At the time, he was with Low-A Visalia recovering from Tommy John Surgery.  He bet a total of $445 and lost money. In September, Saalfrank became the latest Hoosier to make his postseason debut in the MLB.  That came after earning the call to the big leagues in September. The lefty threw 10.1 scoreless innings in relief during the 2023 regular season, and he had 3.18 ERA in 5.2 postseason innings including three appearances…
