The things Maurice Freeman likes to do on a football field don’t generally translate to one position. The Indiana freshman from Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, Va., likes to cover opponents in man-to-man coverage but also likes to set the edge against the run. He’s comfortable chasing receivers on deep balls, but also likes to blitz and attack the quarterback. At 6-foot, 200 pounds, he’s naturally built to be a safety and he could do all of those things at that position, just not as much as he’d like to. Lucky for him, Indiana’s defense has a position that…

Ernest Udeh Jr. is just now starting to believe in what his body is capable of. The 6-foot-10, 235-pound center from Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, Fla., has only taken basketball seriously as a path to a college scholarship since he was a freshman in high school and he’s only grown into a body that makes him a legit Division I level center over the last year. He’s put in years of work on the fundamentals of post work, but it hasn’t really dawned on him until the last few months that his combination of moves, size and athleticism…

As far as Josh Hoover knows, he didn’t have any connection to Indiana when the Hoosiers started recruiting him and they didn’t have any connection to him or anyone around him. “The way they found me, I think, is (offensive coordinator Nick) Sheridan was on Twitter and just happened to see something and looked at it,” Hoover told The Daily Hoosier. “We have no connection. None of my coaches know those guys at all. It just happened to be that we found each other.” In Hoover, Sheridan found a Texas quarterback with a precise understanding of how to make plays…

The Supreme Court’s ruling in the case of Alston v. NCAA that was released Monday ultimately doesn’t change much about the way the NCAA and college sports operate, because not that much was at stake. The U.S. district court that first heard the case, brought by a list of former student athletes including former West Virginia running back Shawn Alston, decided not to “disturb” NCAA rules regarding caps on scholarship and student athlete compensation but found that certain NCAA rules limiting education-related benefits to student athletes were unlawful and therefore enjoined those rules. The NCAA was still not pleased with…

The Hoosiers also have their Crossroads Classic opponent set — Notre Dame — and they will participate in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and likely the Gavitt Games with the…

In 2018, London High School football coach Kyle Cutler found himself in need of someone to step up and play cornerback. His defensive coaches had somebody in mind, but they also knew Cutler isn’t a huge fan of putting ninth graders on a varsity defense. But they told him anyway, because the answer seemed obvious. “I went to them and said, ‘Who’s our corner?'” Cutler said. “They said, ‘You’re not gonna want to hear this, but Isaiah Jones.’ I said, ‘Alright, well he’s going to have to prove it.'” And Jones did. In an early season game he took an…
