Georgia Tech transfer Jaeden Mustaf recently completed a visit to Indiana, and the Hoosiers are expected to be strong contenders for the 6-foot-6 and 210-pound wing.
We previously covered Mustaf as a name to know this transfer portal cycle. Now let’s take a closer look at his game.
Mustaf is not a heavy usage player. His 19.8 usage rate was seventh on Georgia Tech this past season. And at 19.4, he’s not taking an outsized percentage of the team’s shots when on the floor either.
He’s best thought of as a third option, someone who can get to the paint late shot clock, exploit mismatches, score in transition, and take open shots when the defense is in rotation. Big scoring games are not out of the question, however. He scored 28 at Clemson this year, and he’s had nine games of 15 or more points, with six of those coming against high major opponents.
Based on box score plus-minus (BPM), Mustaf measured slightly better on offense than defense. He had the fifth-highest overall BPM (.2) on an 11-20 Georgia Tech team that finished 2-16 in the ACC. He had the fourth-best offensive BPM (0.0) and eight-best on defense (.2). The Yellow Jackets ranked just No. 213 nationally in offensive efficiency and No. 131 on defense, so this wasn’t an easy team to post impressive numbers for on either end of the floor.
In 2024-25, Mustaf was -1.4 overall for BPM, -2.8 on offense and 1.4 on defense as a freshman. So on the whole, he made progress.
When it comes to points over an average replacement player at the same usage (PRPG), Mustaf was third on Georgia Tech at 1.7, an improvement over .8 as a freshman.
While those metrics suggest caution when it comes to expecting Mustaf to be a standout, it should be noted his BPM and PRPG both climbed against conference, top-100 and top-50 opponents this season. His usage went up in those games, and his shooting percentages were generally all better in those games as well. That’s all at least in part because Mustaf is a good athlete with a high-major body. He’s not one who pads his stats against lower level teams, and he’s built to succeed against physicality, length and athleticism.
Mustaf has never been a high-volume 3-point shooter and he probably won’t become that at his next stop. He did improve year-over-year in both attempt rate and make percentage. He was 11-32 (34.4%) as a freshman, and 21-54 (38.9%) as a sophomore. He did make 16-38 (42.1%) from three in ACC games, which was tenth-best in the league.
95.2% of his makes from three were assisted. Mustaf is respectable in open catch-and-shoot situations, but he isn’t likely to become a high-volume sniper who creates his own long-range attempts off the bounce and hunts contested shots from beyond the arc. Think situational Trey Galloway in 2022-23, when he made 46.2%.
Mustaf’s shooting percentages from two, three and the free throw line all improved from his freshman to sophomore year, as did his offensive and defensive rebounding rates, assist rate and turnover rate.
A physical, aggressive driver who seeks contact, Mustaf gets to the charity stripe often. He had 110 attempts in 2025-26. In ACC games, he ranked No. 23 in the league drawing 4.4 fouls per game. And his 49% conference free throw rate (FTA/FGA) was No. 10 in the league.
Mustaf also rebounded at a higher rate against top-50 competition, and his blocks and steals went up as well — more signs he’s built for the rigors of the Big Ten. The one area of concern as the competition level increases — his turnover rate also went up in those games.
Overall, Mustaf can clearly be a key contributor on a high major team. His precise role and playing time will be determined by who he’s surrounded by at the next stop and the system he plays in. But there’s a lot to work with here. Mustaf can be an important part of a good team.
