Two class of 2019 Indiana basketball targets won gold medals on Saturday night at the 2018 FIBA Americas Men’s U18 Championship in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada.

The USA (6-0), which had won most of its game in dominant fashion, withstood an early run from host Canada (5-1) before taking over in the game’s final 36 minutes to claim a 113-74 victory.

IU target and Rochester, Minnesota native Matthew Hurt scored 17 points and added 4 blocks and 3 rebounds in 25 minutes of action.  Greenwood, Indiana’s Trayce Jackson-Davis added 2 blocks and a rebound in 5 minutes of play.

Team USA fell behind 12-7 with 6:23 left in the opening period before it went on a 12-0 run as the Americans took control 19-12.  Team USA had a 29-20 lead after completion of the first period.

From there the USA was dominant, as it outscored Canada 32-13 in the second quarter — resulting in a 61-33 halftime lead.  Team USA was able to cruise to the gold medal in the 2nd half.

For the entire tournament, Hurt averaged 14 points and 5.3 rebound while shooting 63% from the field for the six games.  Jackson-Davis averaged 6.8 points and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 86% from the field.
