Transfer portal names to know: Oklahoma guard De’Vion Harmon

Intriguing names seem to pop into the transfer portal on a near daily basis.

One of the latest is Oklahoma’s second leading scorer De’Vion Harmon, a combo guard  who hails from Texas.

Adam Zagoria was the first to report Indiana’s interest in Harmon, and others including 247Sports followed.

Harmon averaged 12.9 points, 3.4 rebounds. 2.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per game for the Sooners in 2020-21. The lefthander shot 47.7 percent from the floor overall including 33.0 percent from behind the arc, making 33 threes.  The 6-foot-2 Harmon finishes well at the rim and takes care of the ball reasonably well, but he could be a bit undersized for IU’s current needs.  The other concern is that Harmon might consider himself more of a point guard, a position where IU is fairly full next year with Xavier Johnson, Rob Phinisee and Khristian Lander.

Harmon missed both of Oklahoma’s NCAA Tournament games after testing positive for COVID-19 upon his arrival in Indianapolis. A four-star, top 50 recruit in the 2019 class, he picked Oklahoma over Baylor, Marquette, Oklahoma State and Texas back in November 2017.

Zagoria reported early interest from Oregon, Texas, Kentucky, Gonzaga, Indiana and Oklahoma State. 247 Sports’ Travis Branham had this quote from Harmon on Indiana:

“You know how the Hoosiers are. They called me and they’re supposed to have one of the coaches call me later and that will become a more clear message from them. They just said to come join Trayce Jackson-Davis and be the one-two punch.”

With so many names in the portal and so few spots on the roster, it remains to be seen just how involved Indiana will be here.

Here are highlights of Harmon (No. 11) from a high profile game against Alabama this past season.

Harmon’s freshman season (2019-20) highlights are below.
