THREE QUICK REASONS INDIANA WON
1. Massive late plays by Nick Marsh. With the Hoosiers trailing 17-6 with 12 minutes left in the fourth quarter, Josh Hoover found Nick Marsh for fourth quarter touchdowns passes of 75 and 44 yards. Nebraska had kept IU out of the end zone for the first three quarters plus, but Hoover hit Marsh on a 75-yard crosser, and then found him again on a 4th-and-1 play fake that left Marsh wide open for the 44-yard score. Marsh finished the game with six catches for 187 yards and the two scores. Hoover was 12 of 22 passing for 263 yards. He’s up to 17 TDs and no interceptions on the season.
2. Defense gets stops late. Indiana’s defense struggled to get off the field the entire game. But on Nebraska’s final four drives, the Hoosiers got stops and perfectly complemented their suddenly resurgent offense. IU forced a punt and then stopped the Cornhuskers on downs on three straight fourth quarter drives. And then the clock ran out on Nebraska to end the game. It was quite the change from the start of the game. Four of Nebraska’s first five drives went for 10 plays or more, and they scored 10 points on their first two possessions.
3. Indiana personifies next play, 60-minute mentality. This looked like an Indiana loss for most of the game. Nebraska was dominating the time of possession, and Indiana couldn’t run the ball. Through three quarters Nebraska had run 56 plays to Indiana’s 31, and the Huskers held a 30-to-15 time of possession advantage. But Indiana didn’t panic, found the necessary adjustments, and dominated the fourth quarter. IU posted 142 of its 328 yards in the fourth quarter, and the Hoosier defense had two sacks and two more tackles for loss in the final stanza.
