Three more IU basketball 2022-23 nonconference foes revealed

Indiana will once again host three nonconference games in 2022 as part of a multi-team event, Jeff Goodman of Stadium is reporting.

The Daily Hoosier has confirmed Goodman’s report that Miami (Ohio), Little Rock and Jackson State will all travel to Indiana for games in the Hoosier State.

Here are each of those team’s 2021-22 records (and final KenPom rankings).

    • Miami (Ohio) 14-18 (266)
    • Little Rock 9-19 (328)
    • Jackson State 11-19 (277)

The Hoosiers will host Miami Ohio tentatively on Nov. 20, Little Rock on Nov. 23 and Jackson State on Nov. 25, according to Goodman’s daughter Talia.

IU has not played Miami since 1994.  They are 21-3 all-time against the Red Hawks.  The programs faced one another regularly during the Bob Knight era.  They met seven times in the 80s and five times in the 70s.  Miami is coached by former Xavier head man Travis Steele.

The Hoosiers are 2-0 all-time against Little Rock with the prior meetings coming in 1989 and 1994, and they are 1-0 against Jackson State.  Indiana faced Jackson State for the first time last year in Bloomington and won easily, 70-35.

IU is expected to be a preseason top-20 team, but they will be tested during the nonconference slate.  Previously, nonconference games against Arizona, Kansas and Kennesaw State have been confirmed.

Indiana is also expected to host a game for the Big Ten / ACC Challenge, and they’ll likely go on the road to face a Big East foe as part of the Gavitt Games.  Three additional games against mid or low major programs are expected to complete the nonconference schedule.

Indiana will also play 20 Big Ten games once again for the 2022-23 season.  As has been the case in recent years, two of the conference games will be held in late November or early December.

IU has routinely participated in multi-team events (MTE) to achieve the maximum allowed number of games each season.

In April 2020, the Division I Council passed legislation that allows men’s basketball programs to schedule up to 28 regular-season games and participate in an MTE that has up to three games, or 29 regular-season games while participating in an MTE that has up to two games, for a total of 31 games in either scheduling option.

Under the MTE format, Miami, Little Rock and Jackson State will all face one another as well.

Here is what we know about the 2022-23 schedule as of this writing:

    2022-23 SCHEDULE

    • Gavitt Games – TBD
