In 49 states, it’s just a game.  In the state of Indiana, we need our own power rankings.  Every week we’ll help settle the ongoing debate regarding who are the best college basketball teams in the state of Indiana.

Here are the state of Indiana NCAA Division 1 men’s college basketball power rankings for the week ended February 25, 2018:

Current Indiana teams in Joe Lunardi’s Bracketology:  Purdue (2), Butler (8).

    1. Purdue Boilermakers (26-5, 15-3) (B1G) – Two wins on the week despite a somewhat disappointing 3rd place finish in the Big Ten.  The main goal is still out there for the taking.

    2.  Butler Bulldogs (19-10, 9-7) (Big East) – An impressive win over Creighton.  Two tricky road games upcoming as the Bulldogs look to ensure they don’t end up on the NCAA bubble.

    3. Indiana Hoosiers (16-14, 9-9) (B1G) – A heartbreaking Senior Night loss to Ohio State leaves the Hoosiers needing to win the Big Ten tournament to make the NCAA.  May still need one win for the NIT.

    4. Ball State Cardinals (19-10, 10-6) (MAC) – A head scratching home loss to Western Michigan ends a 5 game winning streak.

    5. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (17-12, 7-9) (ACC) – Another split after a tough home loss to Miami.  One more game of preparation before a game at UVA makes or breaks the season.  Will Bonzie Colson play?

    6. Fort Wayne Mastodons (18-13, 7-7) (Summit) – A tough home loss to conference leader South Dakota State.  They are going to need a conference tournament run for any postseason.

    7. Indiana State Sycamores (13-17, 8-10) (MVC) – They break a 5 game losing streak with two wins on the week over Bradley and Evansville.  They still aren’t good but we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and move them up.

    8. Evansville Purple Aces (17-14, 7-11) (MVC) – A split on the week including a loss at Indiana State and a very impressive 30 point win over Southern Illinois.

    9. Valparaiso Crusaders (15-16, 6-12) (MVC) – A split against two middling teams.  Valpo is a middling team too.  At best.

    10. IUPUI Jaguars (11-18, 8-10) (Horizon)- They played both conference powers on the week and gained a split with a nice win over Wright State.
