Romeo Watch: Langford Passes James Blackmon, Jr. on IHSAA All-Time List (Includes Video)

IU recruiting target Romeo Langford returned from a finger injury to play in two games over the weekend.  On Friday he scored 33 points in a 85-61 New Albany win over Jeffersonville.  On Saturday New Albany played in Indianapolis at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.  Langford scored 35 in a 73-65 win over Silver Creek.

The math for him to catch IU great Damon Bailey makes it highly unlikely that we’ll have a new IHSAA all-time scorer this year.  Langford would need New Albany to advance to the state championship game and he would have to average more than 40 points a game along the way.  He’s on record saying that it isn’t his goal to catch Bailey and we believe him.  He could be scoring more points if that were his goal.

Nevertheless, we’ll continue to monitor his progress along the way to see where he ends up.  Bailey is the current all-time scoring leader at 3,134 points.  Langford passed James Blackmon, Jr. on Saturday and currently stands at 10th all-time.  Another Hoosier is up next in Alan Henderson.

Based on Langford’s current scoring average it appears that he will end up anywhere from 2nd to 4th all-time.

THE INDIANA BOYS ALL-TIME SCORING LIST (IU PLAYERS IN BOLD)

    1. Damon Bailey, 3,134
    2. Marion Pierce, 3,019

    5. Rick Mount, 2,595
    6. Trevon Bluiett, 2,568
    7. Cooper Neese, 2,496
    8. Billy Shepherd, 2,465
    9. Alan Henderson, 2,419
