Report: Indiana Will Name Kalen DeBoer as Next Offensive Coordinator

Football Scoop is reporting that Fresno State offensive coordinator Kalen DeBoer will assume the same role at Indiana.

DeBoer was included in The Daily Hoosier’s offensive coordinator hot board, where we said this about him as a potential replacement for Mike DeBord:

Kalen DeBoer (Fresno State OC) – DeBoer is a respected up and coming coach whose offense was 24th in the nation in scoring at 34.6 per game.  But can you imagine the reaction to his last name?

Apparently Hoosier fans will just have to look past DeBoer’s name being so similar to the man that he is replacing, and someone that was generally not a fan favorite.

According to the Football Scoop report, the Bulldogs offense made big strides under DeBoer:

“The Bulldogs’ yards per play rank jumped from 123rd in 2016 to 22nd under DeBoer’s watch, an improvement of more than a yard and a half per snap over the course of an entire season. In raw numbers: Fresno State scored 212 points in the year prior to DeBoer’s hiring and 485 in 2018, a growth of 17 points per game.”

DeBord announced his retirement at the end of December.

The Daily Hoosier will have more on this breaking story.
