No. 6 IU football suffered its first home loss in the Curt Cignetti era last Saturday to Ohio State, 19-15. The loss dropped the Hoosiers record to 6-1 on the season.
The loss also snapped Indiana’s 22-game winning streak, which was the longest running streak in the nation. IU now has a record of 33-3 under Cignetti.
The Hoosiers will turn their attention to the Michigan Wolverines, who are coming off a bounce back win over Penn State. The game will be played in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Kickoff is scheduled for noon Eastern and will be televised on FOX.
Here are some notes, numbers and key matchups to know before the game kicks off at Michigan Stadium.

NOTES
- Michigan leads the all time series over Indiana, 62-11. IU won the last matchup in 2024 at Memorial Stadium. The last time the two teams played in Ann Arbor was in 2023, a 52-7 victory for the Wolverines. The Hoosiers have not won at Michigan Stadium since 1967, when IU beat Michigan 27-20.
- IU quarterback Josh Hoover has 18 touchdown passes to zero interceptions this season. He is one of just two quarterbacks since 2010 to have 15 or more touchdowns and zero interceptions through the first seven games, joining Marcus Mariota, who did it in his Heisman season back in 2014.
- True freshman Tommy Carr took over for a struggling Bryce Underwood in Michigan’s 21-18 victory over Penn State last week. On the season in two games Carr is 7-for-9 passing for 70 yards and a touchdown, while adding 54 yards and a score on the ground. Carr will make his first collegiate start against the Hoosiers this week.
- Saturday’s game will be IU’s third road contest in the month of October. The Hoosiers have already picked up road wins over Rutgers and Nebraska. Under Cignetti, Indiana is 10-2 in true road games, with both losses coming to national top-10 programs (Ohio State, Notre Dame).
- For the third consecutive week, the Hoosiers play at noon Eastern on FOX. Big Noon Kickoff will be live from Ann Arbor, as it was in Lincoln for Nebraska and Bloomington for Ohio State. Five of IU’s eight games this season have been televised on FOX.
- Michigan Stadium has the largest capacity of any American football stadium in the world, seating well over 107,000 spectators for each home game. The Hoosiers have already been challenged by 85,000 screaming fans at Nebraska’s Memorial Stadium, and Saturday’s game will be no exception.
NUMBERS
- 7 – IU’s seven-straight road victories is the longest active streak of any Power 4 team, along with the second longest streak in the FBS.
- 10 – Amare Ferrell’s two interceptions against Ohio State give the safety 10 for his career, placing him in a tie for sixth all-time in program history. John McDonnell and Eric Allen also had 10 career interceptions at IU.
- 30 – Nick Marsh has now recorded at least one reception in 30 consecutive games to begin his college career. That includes 29 games in a row with multiple receptions for the Michigan State transfer.
- 100 – Indiana has now had three-straight games with a 100-yard receiver. Charlie Becker posted a career-high 165 receiving yards against Ohio State.
- 131 – The combined age of the two head coaches in this matchup, Curt Cignetti (65) and Kyle Whittingham (66). The two coaches have more than 80 years of coaching experience combined.
KEY MATCHUPS
- Tommy Carr vs. IU pass rush – Carr provided a much-needed spark for the Michigan offense last week, making play-after-play with both his arm and legs. The Indiana front has struggled to contain mobile quarterbacks this season, such as Aidan Chiles (Northwestern) and Anthony Colandrea (Nebraska). The Hoosiers must force Carr to make plays in the pocket.
- IU pass game vs. Michigan secondary – The Hoosiers’ passing attack puts an emphasis on big plays, especially throws down the field to Charlie Becker. However, Josh Hoover is going up against a stingy Michigan secondary that only allows 166.8 passing yards per game, good for third-best in the Big Ten.
- Curt Cignetti vs. Kyle Whittingham – Two of the most successful collegiate head coaches this century will square off on Saturday. Both coaches are known for their intense style, and getting the most out of their rosters. Over eight decades of experience will be going head-to-head on Saturday.
- IU vs. Michigan crowd – During practice this week, IU practiced with crowd noise in preparation for the more than 100,000 screaming Michigan fans expected in attendance. The Hoosiers also practiced with crowd noise prior to Nebraska. Once again, Indiana will likely have to resort to a silent count on Saturday.
