Indiana will get an official visit from one of the top point guards in the 2026 class.
Kentucky-based Tay Kinney will visit IU Aug. 29-31, according to multiple Monday morning reports.
The visit will coincide with the opening weekend of the IU football season. The Hoosiers play Old Dominion on Aug. 30.
According to the average of the national recruiting sites, Kinney is a 4-star, the No. 3 point guard in the 2026 class, and the No. 15 overall player. He’s a 5-star according to both 247Sports and ESPN.
Kinney was being recruited by the prior Indiana staff and has already been on the IU campus multiple times.
The IU staff will have to work hard to pry Kinney away from his home state schools. He recently took an official visit to Kentucky and has also been to Louisville and Purdue. He’s scheduled to visit Oregon during the first weekend of September, and Texas the second.
The new IU staff re-offered Kinney in May. It wasn’t a cold start, as he was being recruited by Cincinnati and Tennessee, where IU assistants Drew Adams and Rod Clark came from, respectively.
Of note, Kinney recently signed an NIL deal with Adidas, which of course is Indiana’s apparel sponsor. There has been a recent history of Adidas-sponsored high school athletes going on to Adidas-sponsored colleges, including Mikel Brown (Louisville) and Darryn Peterson (Kansas).
Originally from Newport, Ky., Kinney transferred to Overtime Elite ahead of his junior season. He averaged 20.1 points, five assists, four rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game for OTE this past season. He shot 55.6 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three.
On the Adidas 3SSB Circuit this spring, Kinney is averaging 19.8 points and 4.3 assists this year playing for Wildcat Select.
Indiana is looking to build on a 2026 class that thus far includes Prince-Alexander Moody, a guard from Maryland.
