Watch below as IU basketball junior guard Anthony Leal surprised his sister on Christmas by paying off her student loans.
Leal’s older sister Lauren was a college basketball player at DePauw. He has often described her as instrumental in his development and motivation as a player.
On Sunday Anthony was ready to pay it forward.
“Some folks have negative opinions about NIL. But without it, things like this wouldn’t be possible,” Leal said in a Twitter post.
In a video of the moment on Christmas at their Bloomington home, Leal’s sister read a card from Anthony that informed her of the gift. Referencing her student loan debt, Lauren said she was not even sure how much was left on her balance.
“I don’t even know how much that is,” said Lauren.
Anthony had the updated total for her.
“I do. It’s zero now,” said Leal.
