Indiana is endeavoring to match the unsold tickets for the season opening football game against Old Dominion with the energy — and the future — of the football fan base.
Several weeks ago season tickets for the more than 11,000 seat student section at Memorial Stadium sold out.
Meanwhile, ticket sales to the general public have been surprisingly lackluster coming off an 11-2 season that included an appearance in the College Football Playoff. While overall ticket revenue and season ticket sales are up, IU has only announced one sellout ahead of a 2025 season that includes seven home games — the Sept. 20 game vs. Illinois.
So just two days ahead of the opener, Indiana is opening up some of the remaining seats to the students at student rates.
“Indiana students, we heard you,” IU said in an X post.
“You want to be at The Rock & we want you there.
“More tickets are now available in assigned seats at the student rate for our home opener.”
Here’s the link for students wishing to buy tickets to the home opener.
IU Director of Athletics Scott Dolson also sent an e-mail to the entire student body:
“Dear IU Students…Where are you at?!
On Saturday, we hope you’re at Merchants Bank Field at Memorial Stadium ready to cheer on Coach Curt Cignetti’s 19th-ranked Hoosiers as they open the season against Old Dominion at 2:30 p.m. Fresh off last year’s College Football Playoff appearance, the Hoosiers are ready to embark on another special season in Bloomington.
One of the many things that made last year special was the explosion of interest and support from all of you, the IU student body. You showed up (early), you stayed (late), and you cheered (loud).
As for studying? That waited until Sunday.
Let’s do it – all of it – again in 2025.
If you haven’t purchased a ticket yet, do so now. We’ve made more tickets available for IU students at the link below. Please note that these tickets are in the reserved sections of Merchants Bank Field at Memorial Stadium and NOT in the general admission student section. If you already have tickets, get there early and be ready to be a big part of something special.
See you Saturday.
It’s unclear how many seats are still available to the Old Dominion game, but that figure appears to be in the 5,000 to 10,000 range. Memorial Stadium’s capacity was 53,082 last season. Indiana sold out the final four home games a year ago and set a new single season attendance record.
The Hoosiers face Old Dominion at 2:30 p.m. ET Saturday. The forecast is calling for temperatures in the 70s, no rain and light wind.
