Indiana football is ranked No. 2 in the second release of the 2025 College Football Playoff rankings.

The rankings determined by the CFP Committee were announced live on ESPN Tuesday evening.

The latest version of the bracket has IU playing the winner of No. 10 Texas and No. 7 Ole Miss.

No. 1 Ohio State and No. 8 Oregon join IU from the Big Ten in the projected 12-team CFP field.

As long as they remain a top-4 seed when the final CFP rankings are released in December, the Hoosiers will get a first round bye.

In 2025 the 12-team bracket will now be seeded directly based on the final ranking of the CFP Selection Committee, with the four highest-ranked teams receiving a first-round bye. If one or more of the five highest-ranked conference champions are ranked outside the top 12, that team or teams would move up to the 12th seed, 11th seed, etc., based on the number of conference champions outside the top 12.

The Committee will continue to release a new bracket and rankings each week until the final CFP is confirmed on Dec. 7.

    About the College Football Playoff

The College Football Playoff (CFP) is the event that crowns the national champion in college football. The CFP selection committee ranks the top 25 teams at the end of the regular season. The five highest ranked conference champions and the next seven highest-ranked teams will be seeded into a 12-team bracket based on the final ranking, with the four highest-ranked teams receiving a first-round bye. The teams ranked Nos. 5-12 will play in the CFP First Round, with the higher seeds hosting the lower seeds. The Playoff Quarterfinals and Playoff Semifinals rotate annually among six bowl games – the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic, Vrbo Fiesta Bowl, Capital One Orange Bowl, Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, Rose Bowl Game presented by Prudential and the Allstate Sugar Bowl. The College Football Playoff National Championship will be on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
