IU football recruiting: Hoosiers trending for 2027 quarterback

Indiana has a chance to start its 2027 recruiting class with a bang.

The Hoosiers are trending for rising 4-star junior quarterback Jameson Purcell.  That’s according to Steve Wiltfong of Rivals, who placed a prediction this week for Purcell to end up in Bloomington.

Purcell is one of the best quarterbacks in the 2027 class.

As a high school sophomore, the Park Ridge, Ill. product (Maine South H.S.) threw for 2,572 yards and 30 touchdowns.  He completed 70% of his throws.

The 6-foot-2 and 193-pound Purcell is a 4-star based on the average of the national recruiting sites.  He’s the No. 293 overall player in the 2027 class, and the No. 21 quarterback.

In addition to IU, Purcell has several impressive offers including Auburn, Miami (Fla.), Ole Miss, Washington, Louisville, Florida, Nebraska, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, South Florida, Wisconsin and Purdue.

Purcell has been trending to IU for a while, and the Hoosiers have a built-in advantage.

This is what Rivals’ Greg Smith wrote about Purcell in April when he also predicted an IU recruiting win:

The Illinois four-star quarterback was just in Bloomington to check out the Hoosiers’ spring game. Indiana has locked in on him as a top target and the feeling is mutual as Jameson Purcell holds the program in high regard.

The quarterback believes that he would be a great fit in coach Curt Cignetti’s scheme. An added wrinkle here is that Purcell’s parents both went to Indiana along with several other family members. It makes a lot of sense for him to be part of the 2027 class.
