Indiana has their quarterback for the 2027 class.
Illinois-based signal caller Jameson Purcell announced his commitment to the Hoosiers on Monday morning.
“Beyond excited & grateful for the opportunity to be a HOOSIER & proud to announce my commitment to Indiana University! Thx to my family, coaches & friends for the support! Cant wait to get to work w
@CCignettiIU,” he wrote on his X post.
Purcell is one of the best quarterbacks in the 2027 class. He told the national outlets that Indiana’s offensive system, Curt Cignetti’s winning ways, and the IU Kelley School of Business were some of the main factors that influenced his decision.
As a high school sophomore, the Park Ridge, Ill. product (Maine South H.S.) threw for 2,572 yards and 30 touchdowns. He completed 70% of his throws.
The 6-foot-2 and 193-pound Purcell is a 3-star based on the average of the national recruiting sites. He’s the No. 361 overall player in the 2027 class, and the No. 29 quarterback.
Purcell’s parents both went to IU.
In addition to IU, Purcell had offers from Auburn, Miami (Fla.), Ole Miss, Washington, Louisville, Florida, Nebraska, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, South Florida, Wisconsin and Purdue.
Purcell is IU’s first commit in the 2027 class. His sophomore season highlights are below:
247Sports national analyst Hudson Standish wrote this assessment of Purcell on his profile page at that outlet:
Athletic southpaw with streamlined delivery mechanics and a confident play style who wins with timing at the first two levels and by extending action outside the pocket. Verified hovering around 6-foot-1, 190 pounds following a prolific sophomore season where he led Maine South to the third round of the IHSA 8A playoffs as a first year starter. Above-average arm talent and will hit his marks when operating on schedule to the deeper third. Creative runner who can move the chains in the designed QB run game or create for himself when the play breaks down. Quick release and ability to adjust arm slot make for a lethal combination when working quick game. Turns 18 years old in September of 2025. Should be viewed as a dynamic signal-caller with fine-tuned mechanics and a solidly built frame entering his junior season.
