Indiana will have All-American cornerback D’Angelo Ponds back when they travel to Oregon this weekend.
Ponds was a late scratch in the week leading up to the Iowa game.
“I expect Ponds to be fine and play,” IU coach Curt Cignetti said on Monday at his regular press conference.
Indiana’s lockdown corner on the boundary, Ponds has 11 tackles, three tackles for loss, an interception, a pass breakup, and a blocked punt he returned for a touchdown on the season.
Ponds was named second-team All-America by six outlets in 2024, and he was tabbed Freshman All-America by Football Writers Association of America in 2023.
In Ponds’ absence at Iowa, Ryland Gandy got the start at cornerback.
“We found out late in the week he wouldn’t be available for the Iowa game,” Cignetti said. “So coach (Bryant) Haines took out the eraser and ink pen and the gameplan changed a little bit, played a little bit more zone than he planned on playing going into the game, and I thought we did well.”
No. 7 Indiana (5-0) and No. 2/3 Oregon (5-0) kick at 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday at Autzen Stadium in Eugene (CBS).
