IU basketball recruiting: Noah Clowney’s announcement time and location set

Superstitious Indiana fans probably like the approach Noah Clowney will use to announce his college decision.

The 6-foot-10 class of 2022 4-star forward is set to announce his choice at 5 p.m. Eastern on Monday afternoon.  Clowney will make the announcement live on CBS Sports HQ.  That is the same outlet recent IU verbal commits Jalen Hood-Schifino and Jakai Newton used to make their announcements.  Fans can watch Clowney’s announcement for free.

Hailing from Roebuck, S.C., Clowney is down to a final three of Alabama, Indiana and Virginia Tech.  He took an official visit to IU in late August and walked away impressed with the staff.

“Really, the people. Great people, great vibes. I like the team, the coaching staff, even the academic people. I just liked all the people, they just seemed really genuine,” Clowney told The Daily Hoosier when asked what stood out on his visit.

Multiple sources tell The Daily Hoosier Clowney was impressed by an official visit to Alabama last weekend and the Crimson Tide became a more serious contender after his time there.  Alabama and Indiana appear to be the two strongest contenders going into the weekend.

Those same sources indicate the Dorman High School product is unlikely to reveal his decision to anyone prior to the live announcement.

Indiana offered Clowney in April after he had some strong performances for his AAU program, Team Dickerson.  According to the 247Sports Composite, he is the No. 62 player overall in the class of 2022, and the No. 9 power forward.

Clowney has a modern game with the ability to run the floor, make perimeter shots, attack off the dribble and switch on the defensive end.  His skillset would complement the current players in Indiana’s 2022 class.

IU currently has three commits in the 2022 class — combo guard Hood-Schifino (5-star/No. 20), hybrid forward Kaleb Banks (4-star/No. 81) and shooting guard C.J. Gunn (3-star/No. 149).  The 2022 class currently ranks No. 12 nationally according to the Composite.  The addition of Clowney would bump Indiana’s class to No. 9.  He is the final main recruiting target in the class for the Hoosiers.
