IU basketball recruiting names to know: 2022 center Jeremy Foumena

Indiana projects to have front court openings next season, and the working assumption is that they will address those needs via the transfer portal in the spring.

But there are a few class of 2022 big men still available, and at least one is on the radar of the IU staff.

Orangeville Prep (Mono, Ontario) center Jeremy Foumena tells The Daily Hoosier IU assistant coach Yasir Rosemond will be watching him this weekend when he competes at the 2022 National Prep School Invitational in Rhode Island.

The 6-foot-11 Foumena was born in France and lived there for nine years before moving to Canada.  He grew up playing soccer at a young age before discovering basketball after moving to North America.

On film he is a versatile center who rebounds at a high level, can get out in transition, rebound at a high level, and has a polished back-to-the-basket game.  He also appears to be a capable perimeter shooter both from the mid-range and out to the 3-point line.  With a 7-foot-2 wingspan, Foumena is also a solid rim protector.

Playing for the top prep school in Canada, Foumena averages a double-double.

For spring and summer AAU basketball Foumena played for the Georgia Stars on the Nike EYBL circuit.  He hooked up with that program after playing a year of prep basketball in the South, and that program is his likely connection to Rosemond, who came to IU from Georgia.

Foumena has been a bit of late bloomer.  He recently got an offer from Central Florida and in addition to Indiana has interest from Rhode Island, Georgetown, Illinois, Oregon, Marquette, and DePaul.

He said several coaches are coming to see him this weekend along with Indiana, and he’ll be an interesting player to keep an eye on as schools look for late center additions to cap off their 2022 class.
